New Truck Problems

My exhaust brake was working fine. I turned the truck off and started it a hour later and all I get is a clicking noise under the hood and it won't engage. The noise is clicking no matter if the exhaust brake is on or off. Will it hurt it too drive it 30 miles to the dealer. What do you think it could be? I have 76,000 miles and the ebrake has been on since about 25-30,000.

clicking sound

Do you have a multi-meter if so test for voltage and ground at the connector. Maybe a bad ground. I would disconnect the vacuum line and pull the valve open. The clicking is it ??? opening and closing or is the valve chattering which I think the contacts might be dirty you will neeed a small phillips screw driver to take it apart maybe. Mine closed at hiway speed what ablack cloud of smoke it left behind me. :D Mine went bad and when I cleaned my connections it worked again. Should be an easy fix.

The clicking sound is coming from the vacum pump. The brake stays open and won't close. I have an appointment tomorrow at the dealership but does anyone think it will hurt to drive the truck? I will try what you said tonight 2-ND TIME when I get home. Only problem is I am a Chiropractor and don't get home until its dark.

Mine stuck shut a couple of times. I pulled the vacuum hose off of the valve and put about two drops of air tool oil into it... . it hasn't failed in over 11 months.

Well the dealership told me the vacuum pump failed and it will cost 900 plus tax to fix it! I about crapped my pants. Does anyone know if that is a good price or not. They said the pump was $700. What does a new Pacbrake XBR or whatever the new one is Cost?

Click here Someone said its like $250. 00 from Cummins. You can put the stock belt on and drive it until you get the new pump.

No my warranty is out because I had it put on at 24,000 and I am at 76,000 now. Thanks for the info on the pump. IT is nuts I can get it for 300 and they want 700 just tried to call dealership but everyone is gone so I will call them first thing and see if they will do anything and if not I am going to get my truck. Is it hard to remove and install the new one? I could save $600. 00 if I do it and that is nuts.
