Just had my first exhaust brake installed. I am wondering if it causes any loss of power. It looks like that flapper sitting there in the exhaust stream would cause a little back pressure.
I cannot see any difference in power. I have to agree with Casey about stopping, I have had a Jacob's Brake on my last 2 CTD's and I sure never regretted the investments. You will love it.
It stands to reason that the butterfly in the exhaust stream will upset the airfow, but how much? I would think the effect would be neglagable on a stock truck, and the benefit would outweigh the the drawbacks. I have seen flowbench results on carburators and a slide carb will flow better than a butterfly carb of the same size.
On a recent trip I was surprised to find how much engine braking these trucks have even w/o the E-brake. I only pull about 5k but I could descend mountain passes in 6th and only touch the brake 1 or 2 times to keep it under 65mph!
