after around 3000 miles the jake brake switch started to rattle real bad. Anybody got a fix for this? I put one of my dauthers hair bands around it and the shifter shaft during the last trip which helped alot. Ugly fix.

Better yet, I see no reason to mount it on the shifter. To be honest I leave the switch on all the time anyway. Since the ECM turns it off when you come to a stop, the EGT's at the turbo get a chance to drop so I never turn it off.

Anybody found a small switch I could mount on the console that is lighted when on? I think it is a 2pst switch

I trimmed the part off that goes around the shifter. I then drilled a hole in the lower dash cover and moved the switch to behind the steering wheel on the left. With better planning I might be able to see the light but, like you mention, it doesn't really matter if you forget and leave it on. It is also a quick grab if you need it off/on in a hurry.

I stretched a black O ring over the button. Rattle is gone and the black ring is hardly noticeable. Location is a personal preference but I really like the switch on the shifter. The kit that came with my 94 was not on the shifter so I ordered a 2 speed axle switch and mounted it on the shifter. Besides ease of operation most people that look in the truck ask me if I have a splitter or a 2 speed axle.

At least it isn't me. Mine rattled within MILES of getting it put on!

I have a rubberband on it that goes around the shifter knob as well.

I honestly think that there should be either an o-ring or a felt ring on it to keep this annoying rattle GONE!

All that said, I still want to convert the one in my 2001 to have the nice shifter switch like I have on the 2005.

My second hand TDR classifieds BD has a rubber washer underneath the knob. I assume it was put there to eliminate rattle because I don't have any and the previous ebrake knobs didn't have the rubber washer.

My switch never rattled, it just never worked. I can't shut mine off. Got to go to the dealer, and have them change it out. Can the warmup feature on the '06 with a Jake be defeated, or does that have to stay? Here in Arizona it doesn't take long to warm it up!

its all in the logic within the ECM, once the engine hits 140 it stops working at a stand still. Like you said, "it don't take long to warm up here" so it should not stay on that long.

The "disable" is supposed to be controlled by the switch ;) I think the coolant temp where the brake shuts off is 170*F.

im sorry, but from what i understand on this one is your light works...

mine has NEVER been on... i THOUGHT it was an error light, but i dont know... .

should it be on? instructions i have are in AZ so i cant really just go get them...

thanks.

Grant

If the switch is like the Eaton 2 speed switches, you can remove the push/pull knob, put a small o-ring that slides easily over the shaft and slip a spring from a ball point pen over the shaft, replace knob. Easy fix and cheap. Mike

I believe my BD switch (also thanks to TDR classifieds) could benifit from something to quiet the rattle - Akamac, OTD or anyone else - how do I take the knob off to put on the o-ring??

thanks!
