Jake vacuum pump took a crap

left the house today with the family in the truck and 13000 lb 5th wheel behind Heading for a very hilly area. About 20 miles in the Jake stops working. Turn down the radio and hear a knocking noise. It goes away when i step back on the pedal but I pulled over to check anyway. Vacuum pump has finally failed. I continued on putting a lot of unnecessary wear on the new break I just installed. Do I remove the diaphragm for the trip home or just run it and ignore the noise? I just ordered a heavy duty diaphragm from Genos
