Pump timing; I'm missing the point!

Hello First Gen'ers!

Over the Memorial Day Weekend I made the trek North to Connecticut to visit with Ted Jannetty of JRE (www.jannettyracing.com) fame for some much need work on my '92 Dodge.
Ted was kind enough to dedicate an entire Friday toward allowing my truck to realize it's true potential!

Here's the story for those of you who might have interest! I apologize in advance for the long posting but I still totally STOKED over these mods!

I arrived Friday before the shop opened at 8:00am. By 8:15 I had already met Ted, shook his hand and poured myself a cup of stout coffee. My truck was then pulled into the garage, placed on the rack with it's front wheels removed and then lowered to almost floor level. Kind of a genuflecting before the "Master" stance to assist in it's heart removal & installation.

Ted had pre-ordered a enhanced VE pump from his "Medicine Man" of the injector pump world. This pump was test bench set to JRE specifications (internally) and ready for installation through accurate pump timing using dial indicators to the 1. 32mm spec. BD High Output Injectors and modifying the existing Banks 3 1/2" exhaust were also on my wish list and completed. The complete time spent on these three modifications was approx 8. 5 hours including a fine Italian lunch furnished for all by Ted!

I wish we would of had time to do a proper before & after test utilizing Ted's Top-Secret Test Hill for comparison purposes. I don't know the slope of this hill, but it's at least a 30 degree angle (looks more like a 45 from the bottom) and goes straight skyward for approx a 3/8 of a mile.

My old Dodge with modifications complete was able to top the test hill @ 77 MPH (still accelerating) @ 26 PSI boost & 1100 degrees EGT. I know it's hard to visualize performance w/o hard numbers, but for a comparison, Ted's '98 12 valve with HX40/16cm2 turbo and all the other goodies turn it in over a 100 MPH with the EGT being the limiting factor. This truck is an awesome display of power! I had an opportunity to ride in this vehicle and I believe it is one of the hardest accelerating vehicles I've ever ridden in. It was so quick that I saw Jesus numerous times during the uphill run. His appearances became so frequent that I began using him to gauge 1/10 mile increments! Needless to say I'm pleased with the results of my truck!

Max boost before mods was 14 PSI @ 975 EGT in 5th gear flat/unloaded @ 83 MPH top speed.

After the modifications the Max Boost is 26 PSI (wastegated limited) @ 1100 EGT under the same conditions. The added benefit is now the top speed higher and the truck builds boost like a 2 stroke.

I expected the mileage to increase due to accurate pump timing from the normal 19 MPG average but I have not realized any gains yet, still 19 MPG over the 1000 mile return trip. I believe this problem could be related to owners "happy" foot that makes that boost needle dance like it never has before!
