old granney 4spd chevy behind a 6bt?

If you were to do a jeep cummins conversion would you change the front axle? Looking to do it to a 99 wrangler, I think its a dana 30 or 35. I get them mixed up. If this was done to a classic jeep what would you recommend?

I'd go with a D60 front and rear!

I've got fresh D44's under my Scout and at least once a year I'm replacing u-joints or drive shafts. On my annual new years day run I broke a front axle, passenger side u-joint. That wasn't bad enough, it also ruined the inner and stub axle. This was on a mild trail which is the most I do, I only have 33 in" tires and 4" spring lift, nothing wild. If you use D44's with a automatic that might hold up better.

I'd be more concerned about the front frame. The dana 30's have taken alot of abuse with snowplows suspended above them. Any real Jeep is built not bought, so I would probably be looking for shortened 60's and a custom 2"x3" square tubing main frame with incorporated roll cage if I was to take the time to repower with a 4bt. Until I get a frame built for my CJ, I won't put the 4bt in it that I have in my storage unit for it. ;)

I guess with the average over 40's beer bellied Jeep freak, I shouldn't worry much about a 4bt though, its the least of the GVW concerns. :-laf
