Sorry guys, this is my wife's car, a Jeep Grand Cherokee '01, 4. 0 6 cyl. 4-speed auto (stock). The problem is with the tanny. It shifts okay but the torque converter (TC) won't stay locked at hwy speeds (60-70) steady. We accelerate slowly, no foot in it, and the TC locks normally at abround 50 mph and then shortly afterwards unlocks, as evidenced by the RPM increasing at a steady speed. Any ideas? TC, transmission, electronics???

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mike in Florida

This model Jeep has a lot of problems with the electronics, my daughters

Jeep has had them replaced twice. The last time was at 89,000 miles

and much to our surprise this model Jeep has a Limited Power Train

Warranty of 100,000 miles and 7 years, whichever comes first. It only

cost $100 for the last repair. Also repaired under warranty at 93,000

miles was rear main seal and rear axle leak. (Both big jobs)

Many people don't know that their 2001 vehicle has this warranty, so check

your mileage, you may be able to get it fixed under warranty.

Westside Dodge told me that "anything that slides over grease" comes

under this warranty, thankfully it included the electronics on the transmission.

Buddy, we hit Chrysler in the rear just prior to the 100,000 marker.

Thanks ssanders60,

I had no idea that the vehicle could still be under warranty. Just bought it in Jan this year. It is going to the dealer tomorrow.

Thanks a bunch, Mike in Florida

Hello ssanders60,

I want to talk to you about this 2001 Jeep warranty issue, but don't know how to contact you directly. The local Dealer, spitzer Jeep/Crysler/dodge in Homestead, FL say the vehicle is not under warranty. Says it only had a 3 yr/36000 mi warranty. What can I do from here? If possible could you contact me directly? Mike 305 394-3030.

I just talked to a trans man today. He said that the dodge pickups had alot of trouble with bad grounds causing that. I had a jeep ounced that did that and it was just the selnoid that lockes it in that was bad.

Well, the transmission got real loud a few days ago. After they removed it from the car they found that the tourque converter was rubbing against the plate between the engine and tran. so had a small transmission shop overhaul the tran and replace the TC. All is well now, and the $$$ was about half of the dealers quote.
