RPM's- What is considered bogging?

2.69 a gallon

The Wife is looking to buy a new vehicle. .

We test drove the Liberty CRD today.

Pretty nice pep for a 2. 8L 4 cyl Turbo Diesel.

Anyone know anything about these??

Comments?

I already read all the info the posts through the search engine had to offer.

Thats why I made a new post.

I guess I'll have to buy one to get any info! :-laf

Got Smoke, we'll see you at the pulls!

Well, I've drove one and liked it. You can find some info on the Australian offroad forums under the name Cherokee. TST is working on a box for one and the Aussies are claiming a 52hp gain with a box and an air intake. A guy on the Jeep forums claims to have hit 35mpg driving real easy and hits 30 pretty often but says in town mileage is running around 18-20.

Why not money bags, I guess a 500HP 2nd Gen, and a near 500HP 3rd gen aren't enough for ya! :p :-laf

Looking forward to it! ;)

Now that we have a new baby, I've been thinking of selling the 97 and getting a CRD Jeep. But... I have cold feet for a few reasons:

1. Does the VM Motori engine have the longetivity of the Cummins? I don't know the history of this engine well enough. Just because its a diesel doesn't mean its bullitproof (think early 80's GM). I'm not trashing the CRD, I just don't know enough about it and its history.

2. Service/parts/support. One of the best things about the Cummins is the Cummins shop 10 min from my house. I haven't had to go there, but its nice to know I'm not hostage to the dealer. If DC discontinues the CRD jeep in a year or two, are you going to be able to get a _______ (starter, injectors, ECM, etc) in 10 years? I know the manufacturer has to keep parts for 10 years, but what about 11 years. The First Gen folks seem to have to hunt for some non-engine things. And look at the difference at Dodge then at Cummins. Are these engines common enough that you can get parts at non-dealer sources?

My guess is eventually you should be able to purchase parts at a Detroit Diesel shop since they own VM Motori. Some states have tighter emission regulations.

As I recall from reading about them, they have aluminum heads.

I'm dumb enough to drive a gasser with 9:1 compression ratio with aluminum heads, but I ain't dumb enough to spend my own money on a diesel with aluminum heads.....

The D-Max has aluminum heads. When I heard that when they came out I said if Aluminum heads were good on diesels, cummins and cat would be using them already. Only time will tell, I think about 150k on the D-max will show some problems. Won't show on a commercial truck that runs 150k in a short period. Give it a 6-8 years.

I looked at the Liberty also. I did not know it had aluminum heads. PH strips and special coolant needed.

It was a good looking package. Mileage was OK. It would be a little better if DC quit insisting on putting 3:96 gears in. 3:55 or 3:23's would be much better on fuel. I've got a truck if I want to tow something.

Mercedes, VW, Peugeot, and many, many more LIGHT diesels use aluminum heads with great longevity and durability. (My VW has 300K on a virgin motor) I think that you are confusing the motor in the CRD with a N14 Cummins, or even the B in your truck. It is a car, not a truck. Aluminum will be just fine in this application.

whats the deal with not selling them in cirtain states

EMISSIONS Certification.

I did some calculations some time ago. If I remember correctly, by not getting this engine certified for all 50 states, they have eliminated about 25% of the potential US market

is it true the coolant system has liners in it just like the powerchokes and you have to use them darn test strips? i don't want to have to worry about pin holes in the block. i don't want it. it reminds me of my old powerchoke days.

OK I went to Mikes and could not find nothing except he lives real close to me. Could not find any Jeep News.

As far as test strips, its supposed have aluminum heads as well. PH critical in the cooling system, like the PS from the past. Shades of D-Max.
