How to look something up

6.5 Td...

Has anyone been keeping an eye on what is going on with the Liberty Diesel? Have been looking into a midsize suv for winter and tried to keep an open mind and looked at some other suv's and this evening looked at a nissan frontier and exterra. The frontier seems like nothing more than an expensive 4wd car that seems next to impossible to service. I'm slightly mechanically inclined and that being said, I have to wonder why someone makes an engine that you still have to remove the intake to change plugs? Didn't mitsubishi learn that lesson with the stealth? Why does a 33 grand vehicle have drum brakes? Why do these engines still have distributors? Oh yeah, it has some monsoon system in it. I realized my mistake and left while the salesperson got lost somewhere. You can buy a loaded Grand Cherokee for less than the 28,000 price tag of the stripped down exterra and the Cherokee gets better mileage. So, the Liberty in my opinion is now back to the top of my list of perspective suv's. But I want an oil burner that gets good mileage. What's the rumor about the Liberty Diesel?

Yes in several of my magazines this month they had a small whats up feature on the liberty. It will come out with a 2. 8L common rail diesel, output is set at 160hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Also Dodge will release the Power Wagon this fall also, but for now it will not have the diesel option.

I think I just about have my wife convinced as we have been getting diesel as low as $1. 55/gal. She did have a Jeep Cherokee that she liked. The kid still has it and it took him all through college. A diesel would be a keeper!

My local lot says they are arriving in Sept. Looking at Australian websites shows the Liberty to get 27 to 28. 5 on the average with some reporting 30 mpg if you convert liters.

It's a brute of the 3rd gens. Comes factory for offroading (not to be confused with the offroad package currently offered). Don't quote me, but I think it has a winch standard, 35" mud terrains and a couple of other items... . it looks pretty cool from the photos I've seen.

Thanks for the jeep.com info. I did call a dealer locally today and he gonna call as soon as they get the ordering info. MB turbo diesel in the liberty is too good to pass up. The truck is going into semi retirement during the winters and its still in great shape and its going to stay that way if the new truck prices keep going up. It's also accumulating too many mods that I haven't listed but drives like it did when new. That's the best part of these trucks, you can bomb till you've reached semi power levels and it drives no different than a stocker. I feel almost guilty that others don't have this kind of luck. :{ I've got to develope a bomb strategy for the Liberty now!

I was refeering to the lastest article in Auto Week, titled DODGE'05: Ram (p) it up.

In it they talked about Dodge unleashing a powerfull pair of pickups this fall. The 2005 Dodge Ram Power Wagon and the Quad Cab version of the wolds fastest pickup, the SRT-10. The SRT-10 would stay basicly un-changed, just the addittional space for two more passengers. The Power Wagon, the first truck to carry that moniker since 1980, it returns in the fall of 2005 , to the line-up of Ram 2500 HD ridding on 17-inch wheels and 33 inch all-terrain tires standard. The 80. 6" tall truck is powered by the popular 5. 7L Hemi. But reports have it that Dodge is working on a new 6. 1L version of the Hemi v8 with HP ratings in the 375 range. Word has it that the first car to get this new power plant will be the 4-door Charger which returns earily of '06.

So far no article has said anything about electric lockers, winch, or any of the other goods mentioned. This is not the concept vehicle they debuted before, what it is is a factory Ram 2500 that has been super sized.

Seems a shame that most of the guys on these pages that are serious 4-wheelers had to shame DC into building that nameplate again. 40 grand to upgrade to a new truck is insane given the rise in insurance rates and the mileage of a gasser with less hp and torque. Isn't the C300 and the Magnum already available with the Hemi?

Questions 05 Jeep Liberty

Hi There! I wanted to bring this thread back up to the front after I found it on a search. I too am asking questions about this 05 diesel that they are putting into the Jeep Liberty. The Jeep.com web site states they will get about 480 miles per tank and at 21 city/ 27 highway. Thats quite a differance from what you stated the aus-ees are getting with their autos.

Mcoleman- can you provide us with some more into or maybe the Australian websites. I have gone to several dealers and they all had that blank " deer in the headlight" look when i started asking questions!

I, for one, was looking at the VW Jetta wagon but would rather not pay that price for a non US auto. With the fuel emission update coming to play in 07 I am looking to put a second oil burner in the driveway for the missis. Makes me wonder what we are going to do to that 2. 8L to make the milage drop from 27mpg to 21???

If you got some inside info please pass it on so I can make those saleman look real stupid :-laf . Thanks, Ken

Do searches under diesel Jeep Cherokee as they call them a Cherokee in the UK. I've even thought about emailing some of the owners on the offroad websites from over there for their opinions.

From what I understand, the CRD is of Italian make. Detroit Diesel bought into an Italian mfr some years back, then, when M-B bought Detroit Diesel they got the Italian company as well.
