How to remove rearview mirror mount

I'm starting get more serious about the jeep liberty. How about some pros and cons on it. Likes, Dislikes, mpg. Did anybody change the fuel filter on the crd. Any opion is great thanks. Rhino50 :)

OK i have put 2200 hundred miles on mine, and I absolutely love it. It is a great dingy for the CTD. It is getting about 22 mpg and i am using stanadyne as with the CTD. I ust had the radio replaced with an Alpine and new speakers cause its a sport with the elcheapo radio etc. But it is fun to drive, did well in the snow and is my daily driver. I save the truck for the fun stuff.

We just put 300 miles on it today to go to scranton area to pick up a new german shepherd puppy, he's terrifi two now we have three of them

Oo. Oo. Oo.

they back the 05 more so than the 06 for some reason

we would like to find a 05

it has vary good got up and go for it's size

I like the 05 warranty

My wife has an 05 that we bought in June after the arrival of our daughter. She's got about 8500 miles on it and she really likes it. Highway summer mileage runs between 27 and 29, and she is getting 20 or so consistantly with 100% in town stop and go this winter.

Some random thoughts on it in no particular order:

1) Hers is a limited with almost all of the toys. The only options it doesn't have are the GPS radio and the U-connect. Fit and finish was better then my 99 Ram when it was new and the Jeep is a very tight vehicle all around.

2) Either get the skid plate group or add them. The oil filter hangs down and is very vulnerable.

3) We got about $4500 off of MSRP, for comparison purposes.

4) It is louder and rougher then a gas liberty and its more particular about the fuel. It didn't like the unbranded diesel from the cheap truck stop in town that I'd been running in my 99. Its very happy running B-5 though. Makes it quite and smooth and a lot less 'diesel'. Almost every time my wife was filling it up at the truck stop somebody would come over and say 'missy do you realize you are putting diesel into your car'.

5) Like was previously mentioned, the 05's have the 7/70 powertrain and the 06's are just 3/36. Used 05's seem to be hard to come by here because once they get 7500 miles on them they can get licensed in California so there is a big market for slighly used.

My wife's previous daily driver was a 97 2500 CTD 4x4, so she was no stranger to diesels. Someone coming from a gasser might not be as happy. She would buy another in an instant. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

For me it is easier to change the fuel filter buy putting a jack stand under the left frame rail YOU CANT TRUST A HYDRAULIC JACK, A SEAL CAN LET GO AND GOOD BY WORLD. After you remove the left front wheel and fender liner you can easily reach the fuel filter. If you can't re-use the fender liner fasteners you could use hex head screws and fender washers. I go to Ace hardware and they will ask what size hole and give you the size you need. If it is a 12 valve it is a good time to inspect the fuel hose that runs behind the filter canaster and parallel to the block where it gets hot and deteriorates every 60 to 90K or so. I used trans cooler hose, thicker than original. A little tougher to put on (its an in-between connection) hoping it will last longer. REGARDS Jim

After more studying up this past week and test driving the CRD, I got cold feet, but wish they would warm up. Seems that the tourque converter issue is solved ... ... somewhat. I really liked the way it drives and handles, but when the warranty went from 7/70 in '05 to 3/36 in '06... ... . makes you wonder!!

They say it's a software issue, not the transmission itself. I believe that, kinda.

I dont know enough about these automatics to know of longevity issues and would like to keep this SUV for a long time, not just ditch it after 50-100k.

This is the 545RFE transmission, same one used in the Hemi. Anyone here know what aftermarket upgrades one can have done to these when the warranty runs out, or if a guy gets fed up with DC's fixes or lack there of ??

Had one goaround with DC in '01 and fear the same neglectful treatment again.

Any one know of the latest on the transmission issues... ... . or software updates ??

I believe this warranty change from 7/70 to 3/36 was on all Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep products. I can't comment on the transmission question because we haven't had an issue, but you might try www.lostkjs.com. They have a somewhat active CRD forum.

I didn't realize the transmission was the same one behind the Hemi. Interesting info.

I am waiting on the Wrangler diesel. "It is coming" is the word of my local dealer. I told the salesman that I want to order one as soon as the information is available for them. I want the 6-speed. Although I like the Liberty, I do not want an automatic and I honestly have always loved the Wranglers and said "If they would only put a diesel in them". Hopefully my wait is almost over! I also prefer the Wrangler's solid axles over the car like Liberty suspension. I have a "luxury" truck, this vehicle will be for play and some daily driving. Anyone else heard any news of a diesel Wrangler becoming available in '07?

I was told (by the dealer) that the Nitro would have the liberty diesel in it.

Yes, the 2007 Wranglers will have the 2. 8 CRD diesel. If you go to Jeep.com and look at the specs for the 2007 Wranglers its listed... FOR EXPORT ONLY.

So you can build one in the good old USA, but can't buy one.

That is exactly what they told me when I called their consumer information line. What a friggin CROCK!! Why??? Heck, it is already emission certified cause the dam thing is used in the Liberty! Why would they NOT offer it in the Wrangler? I am ready to order one and I am sure there are others who would buy them too!!

I've been himmin' and hawin' over the Liby CRD for days now... ... got the price to the point where if it's a go, I'll be happy to buy it and if it's short ... ... . oh well!

Also stopped buy the Dodge dealer and tried to see if they knew about the Nitro and possible diesel option, tried to pry a bit by saying I'm buying a Liby CRD in a day or two... . stop me if you want me to be the first to buy one from you if you know anything... ... . he just smiled... ... . so did I. I'm not a very good poker player!

Hey DCX... ... . if you're listining put a stick in a 4x4 SUV and lots of us will mow over traffic in our CTDs to get in line.

I do like the Liby CRD, but the no stick option and so so milage does'nt have me googling like a teenager in love.

Yes, that would be nice, but then we are still dealing with the so-so fuel economy of our current trucks. We need a manual transmission version of the Liberty CRD for both power and fuel economy. It should be easy to achieve 30 mpg in it then! I would honestly rather have the Wrangler with the CRD engine and a 6-speed, but would seriously consider the Liberty if it had a manual transmission with the diesel. What's the friggin deal?

What about an automatic that has been modified? One that doesn't waste a ton of power in the form of dissipated heat (inefficient fluid coupling in the torque converter)?

I'm of the opinion that someone could make the automatic equipped CRD's quite nice to drive. I'm also of the opinion that with some aftermarket tweaks, the mileage could be improved quite a bit and you still wouldn't sacrifice emissions or drivability. They're still pretty new on the market and not many people have BOMBed them just yet. Heck, with just a box - they put out 240hp and over 400ft-lbs of torque.

I posted a thread stating that the Wrangler CRD is coming soon. I'm unsure of the manual transmission offering, but I am more than sure that a diesel Wrangler will happen within the next 2 model years.
