What ever happened to the T-Rex?

What ever happened to TDR follow up article on the Jeep Liberty diesel?????

I own an 06 with 6000 miles and have had nothing but check engine light, dealer shop time with no satisfactory results.

I read an article in this month's Popular Science saying that after 20,000 miles they had to turn it back into the dealer because it would not run.

Does anyone else own one and have problems of a similiar nature or heard of any?

Thank you,

I belong to a Jeep club and there is a club member that has an 04 or 05 Liberty diesel.

No problems, at least that he has mentioned.

Try a different dealer (even a Dodge dealer) should be able to help you out.

Good luck. I hate when somebody has issues with a new vehicle and nobody can figure it out. Especially when I'm partial to the "Jeep Thing".

Keep us posted on your results. There are thousands of great technicians out there.

The hard part is finding them.

No problems with ours

My wife has an 06 with about 8K on it. One CEL that the dealer couldn't find but I'm sure it was low trans line pressure as it had a few other symptoms of this. We had the TSB done today for that issue and the F31 recall/reflash also. Otherwise no issues. We really like it. Only mod I've done is changing the crankcase vent to an open vent as the closed system is faulty (gets oil in the intercooler). Should be a fix for this in the near future. There have been quite a few that had a short in a wiring harness (intermittant stalling and low power) Have the dealer contact star they are well aware of this .

A friend has one with 10k and had it stall 20+ times. When you come to a stop it acts like the torque converter is locked and stalls the motor. Dealers cannot replicate and claim said he is the only one with this problem. He is very concerned because it is his wifes and she almost got into and accident because of it.

Exact issue my nephew was having... ... . They flashed the trans controller then ended up finding a short in the harness.

Lets see 2 ECMs, EGR valve, EGR flow control valve, 1 Battery, and now the cruse control won't work. oh yea and if the tires loose 3 psi the light come on. not happy, the dealer has no clue

Bob, do you happen to have any more info on the short they found in the wire harness. My friend is having a heck of time with the dealer trying to fix the same problem and any info on where to point them to look would be fantastic. Thanks.

What DC found

On the article that was refereed to, from popular Mechanics Mag, They found contaminated fuel, and a electrical connection that had a silicon type grease in it. Do these Jeeps have a similar problem as the 3rd gen trucks due with the roll over valve, or vent tube???? If it does then get it taken care of now .

Liberty Diesel

A good friend of mine at a CDJ dealer said that Jeep did not stop makjing the Liberty Diesel because of the 2007 emissions mandate - the warranty costs were killing them. He said it is a very bad engine design, but that the diese in the new Cherokee is greatly improved.
