The diesel Jeep Liberty will be powered by a 2. 8-litre common rail turbo- diesel engine produced by DaimlerChrysler, with either a manual or automatic transmission. It is expected that the diesel-powered Liberty will have up to 30 percent improvement in fuel economy, versus a comparable gasoline-powered Liberty.

found this in an article

Re: Diesel Liberty

The diesel engine proposed to be developed

by Daimler-Chrysler for the Liberty will likely follow the path of the V6 Pwr Stroke

that Ford had planned for the new F-150 ('04),

they won't risk it in fear that it might not

meet the federal requirements regarding emmissions

that were mandated by the Clinton Administration.

In other words, it's hardly worth the effort.

This law was made to appease the tree huggers,

steal votes from Ralph Nader, and most of all to

make it hard on the Bush Admins. in case he won.

Pickup owners (diesel), all the way thru the

18 wheeler operators will pay for this nonsense.

CTD. (Burns fuel so cleanly that the oil

is hardly stained after 7,000 miles)

"POS Dana Axles"?????

What have you been smokin? I'm not sayin that a 14 bolt is a bad axle, but it is a little bloated for its strength, and they had to add a third bearing to correct a design flaw... ...

Granted Dana's are harder to set up ring and pinion, but how can you knock a 60?????

Government People

Ya know guys, it's about time these people we employ in government, find out who their employers are. We all know tree huggers aren't too bright, (i. e California/Arizona wildfires). These people need to be educated that we are NOT just a bunch of dummies workin' our fannys off to feed the tax bucket. It's WAY past time for all of us to speak up and insist that we be heard. Call your congressperson and express yourself. Remember, THEY work for YOU! Ron

And it looks like.....

... ..... Or not

The 2. 8Liter VM Motori Engine from Detroit Diesel Automotive engines, a wholy owned subsidiary of Daimler-Chrysler.

Just to set the record straight, I am not aware of any tree huggers filing suit to stop logging around Big Bear but am aware the land owners groups would not let the dead trees be cleared. And I am under the impression that the NM fires were caused by controlled burns gone bad. That would be under the controll of the feds, not tree huggers.

IMO dana axles are just weak. I had dana 60 and a ford 9" on my old truck with 42's and i notice everyone that had danas broke all the time. any other company of axle held up. i know danas have the best and cheapest aftermarket but those axles in general are just weak. How is the 14 bolt we have bloated?

Not to start a war on axles here because this is the thread on the jeep rescue but do you honestly think a truck with a cummins diesel and lookng at a pic of that truck with 35 inch tires... you think dana 60's will hold. maybe the front one would be ok but youd definatly need a dana 80 or dana 135 for the rear. . i wouldnt mind ROCKWELLS!!!!! 2-1/2 ton beasts.

I saw a pic on another thread in the 3rd grn engine forum it was "new engine " or something like that.

I certainly hope that "deals in facts" isn't trying to suggest that certain enviromental groups (not all of them for sure) have not gone so far as to file lawsuits to stop timber companies, private land owners and the fed from thinning timber stands or that they haven't done likewise to try and succeeded in some cases to close federal land to motorized recreation. What was it----something like 65 million acres I think they were trying to get reclassified as "wilderness" with the Clinton administration's help. The plan was to basically bypass Congress and close this land to all public access. I remember it fairly well. The American Motorcyclist Association kept real close tabs on it. I think it fizzled out but as if the Gestapo tactics weren't obvious enough on that deal! I'm all for clean air and water but for crying out loud!!!!

The facts we are talking about are about the Big Bear and Los Alamos fires period. I don't recall anyone talking about motorcycles. Oh by the way, the current bunch in DC refused to help CA do anything to clean up the dead trees around Big Bear. Guess there wasn't enough timber in it to make an effort.

You 'ol boys go ahead and take your best shot at explaning that away and I'll see what you came up with when I get back in town.
