Jeep will introduce the Gladiator pickup concept at the January show in Detroit.

Based on a unique platform, the mid-sized pickup wears Wrangler styling cues. It sports a canvas top and expandable truck bed. The Gladiator is powered by a 2. 8-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine.

I'm surprised there's not more buzz on this here. I like the concept and think it would be a real nice general purpose unit if they can make it cheap enough for what it is.

I saw this at the Detroit show yesterday (Saturday). I thought it was really cool, and there were tons of people listening to the model talk about it. Of course, there were also tons of people (and I mean tons) watching the waterfall that Jeep had set up. Mostly I was just disappointed there was no Commander there. :(

I was amazed how expensive Jeeps have become. They had an "Unlimited" Rubicon with a sticker of over $29k! Wow!

That looks like a sweet little truck. Solid front axel, Diesel Engine, Six speed transmission, locking diffs. Oo.

Sounds great. Just add injectors and a box to get the hp to around 400 and were good to go.

Nope, it wasn't there. :(

I don't know how to react to that. Since the Rescue wasn't there it could mean:

  1. Manufacturers don't re-show concepts very often. (or do they?)
  2. It fell off the list of approved projects - Man, I hope not.
  3. Jeep/DC made this thing just to make me drool and get ulcers from anticipation.
