Darn Hackers... I've been violated..

Read this in InfoWorld today ...

Just finished responding to an email from Doug Hatfield and a dim bulb went off in my head. How many out there are Jeepers or rockcrawlers? I don't want to sound elitist and only include jeepers, since I think that anyone who enjoys this activity is ok by me. It seems from the various posts that there are quite a few of you out there, but how many? Anyone want to try and do a Rubicon Barret lake or other Sierra Jeep trip this Summer? What type of vehicle do you have? Any way, just curious. I think I need to go and change my signature now.

As a matter of fact my other "car" is a jeep. We do more slip sliding in the mud than rock crawling but it's just as much fun.

RD. . well as my handle would imply... [even though it is about a 33 Willys]... I have a project '83 CJ7. . just fired up the new 383 stroker tricked out motor 'bout 425/450 HP all low end torque monster. . 4" lift , Swamper SSR's 33x12. 50x15, 4. 56 gearing. . many many items left to change out. . I'll do'em as I break them. . have a NV4500 sitting on the garage floor out of ol'#1 [my wrecked 98. 5 3500] next will be either a full floater stocker rear end or swap out. . [full floater stocker has a larger ring and pinion gear size than the 44, full floater will fix the two piece axel issue].
a get together in later summer sounds like something we should try. . but somewhere the reg. 4x4's might join us in as I don't think there are too many of us here ????
I'm up in the hills at 4k ft Twain Heart area. .

set something up guys--I've had a hankering to buy another willys for quite sometime and maybe now is the time, but if I don't I'll bring big red up and tag along as far as possible---chris

'79 CJ-7 304 V8, T-18 4sp (6. 32:1 1st), Currie 9inch axles front & rear, 4. 10s w/ 33" BFG Mud Terrains. Need to do a shackle reversal before taking it anywhere - the front spring hangers had to be welded on (crappy stock two bolt design sucks) and the welds have cracked.

Somebody say rockcrawling?

Probably won't make it to the Rubicon this summer, it's a bit of a drive from Denver.

Just got back from Moab (Easter Jeep Safari). Ran a few new (to me) trails this year, including Rusty Nail, Lower Helldorado, and Upper Helldorado.

The spec list is kind of long, but it's already typed up, so:

'83 Blazer

Front Axle: Dana 60, rebuilt, 4. 56s, Detroit.

Rear Axle: 3/4 ton 14 bolt, 4. 56s, Detroit, custom disks.

Steering: Crossover using 2wd box, Avalanche Engineering steering arm, Scout pitman arm, heim joints and 1-1/4" OD, . 287" wall DOM tubing, 3 stabilizers, frame reinforcement plate and ORD brace. Heim joint/tubing tie rod, reinforced w/ angle iron.

Front Suspension: 4" Pro Comp front springs, Homemade shackles (1/2" longer that stock), single Pro Comp shocks, ~3” lift.

Rear Suspension: Stock springs w/factory overloads, shackle flip using OE stock hangers, single Pro Comp shocks, ~3” lift.

Brakes: Hydroboost, 1 ton master cylinder, braided steel extended lines, adjustable proportioning valve.

Tires:
Street: 35x12. 50R15 BFG Muds, bald, on 15x10 chrome mods w/4-1/8" backspacing.
Trail: 15x39. 5-15 TSL Swampers on 15x10 American Racing wagon wheels w/4-1/8" backspacing. I think the bead locks are MRT, they were put on by Tru-Design wheel.

Motor: Originally 6. 2 Diesel, replaced w/'87 TBI 350, MSD 6AL, full length headers, single big block Flowmaster.

Trans: Stock 700R4, rebuilt, slips bad in 2nd.

T-case: Stock 208.

Driveshafts: Stock, conversion joint in rear.

Winch: Warn 8274 in old Warn winch mount/brush guard.

Dual batteries, isolated, one starting & one deep cycle.

Top:
Summer: Kayline, older snap-style.
Winter: Hard Top.

Body: Lots of Sawzalling, grinding, cracks, and dents, w/a 5’ wide red bow tie on the hood.

As Ranger Dick stated earlier I think it would be great to have an outing with TDR members and 4-wheeling sounds like something that would be really fun. I am planning to head out this summer for a trip to do many of the trail Ranger Dick stated as I have not done any of them yet and heard they are very senic trails.

Here a a pic of my Jeep on one of the Johnson Valley trails (Wreaking Ball).

The picture was taken on Independence, in Penrose, CO. Definitly a good trail, it's pretty tight in spots. I stole it from Avalanche Engineering's web site (www.avalancheengr.com); they had a total of 4 pics of my truck, but they're not there anymore. That was 2 summers ago, we ran it again last year. We'll have to hook up for some wheeling this year, Doug.

I have a '67 CJ5. I can't make it this summer, since I have already made other vacation plans, but I was hoping to get it back running good again and try to go to Colorado next summer and hit the old mining town trails and stuff. If anybody has any info on where to go for that kind of thing, I would appreciate any advice. I'm not sure yet if I will be able to do it but if I do, my TDR brothers would definately be welcome to join us. That would be pretty cool.

Well, went to change my signature to include my jeep and it appears that the new changes would not take, so, here's what I have. 68 CJ-5 225 V6, Muncie SM420 (7. 05:1), warn over drive, full floating dana 44 with a detroit and 4. 88's. model 27 front with a power lock, Warn 8274 winch, Mobiweld welder, 32" bfg Muds. and other stuff I can't remember. I'm possibly looking at a job change in the next month, and with luck, I might be going u to the sierra foothills. It would appear that most of the Sierra trails are going to open early, due to early melt. Rubber side down.

Hale on wheels, If you want to look as ghost towms/mining towns the place you must see is the Suan Jaun Mountains in Colorado also know as the Ouray, Silverton, Tellride area use to be extremely heavy in mining with lots of old ghost towns. I spent a good 3-4 days looking and poking around and never even put a dent in what there is to see. I when and did Black Bear Pass (Bridal Falls is a must see).
