I'm curious as to the twin turbo 100% smoke free part.

Jeff's new combo spools so fast it has zero smoke nor does it smoke on a cold 20 F startup.

He's already acquired a donor to build another truck like this.

I had always dreamed of taking a dakota and putting a 12v with twins in it. Now we just need stacks, 4wd and some lift :D

:--) WOW thats NUTS!!!!!! so whats the story with the dakota? I saw "RIP" in one of the posts... ? How does the front end on those hold up to the weight of the CUMMINS??

wow!!!

Try a search here on the TDR about the Dakota. I remember reading on here when the throttle stuck open, and it wreaked.

I saw that thing in Muncie one year, it was sweet.

forrest

Try the difference of $10,000 between a ST model 2500 Cummins Vs. the truck he bought. That will help in the cost of the whole project i'm sure. ;)

I believe this is a project that Jeff is working on in conjunction with a local dealer, thats why the truck was selected, not because it may or may not be the one Jeff would have chose if he was building a drag truck.

Not totally correct. The 1500 has a 7" longer wheelbase than Jeff's race truck. When I installed the body on Jeff's hotrod, we used a bed off a long wheel base 2500. That bed was cut off 7" shorter than my 1500 4X4. So with the 1500 you have wheelbase, engine placement, and a cool idea of a 1500, 600+ HP street rod in a 05 body. He does have some reservations about the short, short, wheel base of the racer, and just want a little longer platform.

So now, who will have a 1500, 05, 2 wheel drive diesel that will "eat" anything on the road, in diesel form. A very novel idea, and Jeff can make it work.

Kinda cool in my book.

Do you have any idea how much a new 1500 weighs? The "cool factor" is way up there on that project...

4500#

That's about 1000# less then the 2500 counter part.

wonder what kinda bending might happen on the frame at 1400foot pounds? :)

The Dakota is in at about 4400#.

The Banks sidewinder deal, they had to modify the firewall and all kinds of stuff to stick the cummins in that truck. I'm sure the 1500 will be less of a headache and much closer to the 2500 at only 100 more pounds of weight, that I'm sure you would have to add to the dakota to shoehorn the motor into.

But, is there a big areodynamics advantages to a dakota or ram 1500? dakotas are typicaly closer to the ground and well, "look" smaller and not as wide.

for just the truck? or complete with drivetrain? you know that Cummins is pretty heavy, right? :D

hmmm Thatś right.

1500 = ST model with gasser V6 and auto transmission. This is what the guy started with right?

the 2500 if I recall 5400# with auto and cummins.

So itś not apples to apples. :) Just a quck search of dodge.com and you can get this info for your self :)

I haven´t a clue of what a typical 12 valve and transmission weight in at. 500-700 more then a v8/transmission I would guestamate?

My hotrod is a 2500, and at the track saturday, in plain jane form it weighted, 5545, with me in it and 3/4 tank of diesel. So with the difference in weight of the 1500 , I see an advantage already. And the frame, for me, no worry there. Now to find a rollcage builder.

Just a quick look at dodge.com... ram 2500 reg cab 2x4. they print with the hemi (the only gas option for 2006) is at 3000#? the rest are at 5400#-ish. This HAS to be a typo. You with the diesel is at just a bit above that. The Cummin's can't weight that much more then the gasser. I suppose not 500# more.

But yeah, either way you look at it 1000# is alot of weight.

I can't wait to see this thing in person. Tomorrow 2/03 I'm going to get my Suncoast from Jeff. What a conversation piece this will be.

That man never ceases to amaze me.
