Jerky Computer???

Over the past week my PC has become very "jerky". Slow to respond to keystrokes and the mouse - hesitates and catches up when you scroll. Very annoying. Anybody have any recommendations to fix this? :{

I'm running Win 2000 Pro. I tried the defrag this AM and after it "analyzed" it said that defrag was not necessary. Would y'all do it anyway?

I have McAfee Virus scan, etc. It's all up to date. I'll check that anyway.

Make sure you don't have anything like Kazaa in your computer.

If you have an always on internet connection (cable, T-1, etc), spyware will send a huge amount of information about what you are doing, and where you have been on teh internet. That can really slow your PC down.

I would do a search for Lavasoft Ad-Aware 6. 0 It's free, and wil get rid of any spyware you have on your computer.

That's what was wrong with my computer, it would slow down so much, and crash so often, I was re-booting every 30 minutes. Frustrating as could be.

I would also download and run SpyBot. It will detect and remove most garbage on your computer that is not needed. You will be surprised how much stuff is downloaded without your knowledge when you visit certain websites.

SpyBot

I have Earthlink cable modem connection. Spyware is part of the package. I ran a Spyware scan and it turned up clean. Virus Scan was negative and after defrag it seems a bit more responsive but still hangs up more than it used to.

One thing that most miss is that the cpu fan will clog with dirt. Open your case and gently vacuum the cpu fan off, and the board too.

I have to do mine every 6 months, because my cpu runs full tilt 24/7

The cpu will overheat and slow down.
