Did You See The Hearings On Fuel????

Local Bio News

I recently have the opportunity to get sump jet fuel out of jet plane. I'm not exactly sure if the fuel is Jet A or Jet A-50. I have always heard for years that jet fuel does not have as much oil and I have known people to add Marvel Mystery Oil to help with lubrication. How much should I add per gallon of fuel.

lube in kero

sorry boys and girls

its 5% so

40 gallons would get 8 qt's

20 gallons would get 4 qt's

10 gallons would get 2 qt's

5 gallons would get 1 qt

I would pass that up for sure. Being X military in the Jet fuel field I have seen what comes out of those sumps. The sumps are designed to trap water and the reason to drain the sumps is to rid the system of water.

Its just too risky IMO to take sump fuel.

Jet sump fuel

I might add that I purchased a Mr. Funnel water separator to catch any debris or water. The fuel has been very clean, I am sumping the same aircraft so regular that I wouldn't be surprised that I could get more debris or water from most gas stations, especially those that don't move a large quantity of fuel per day.

I was thinking you might be getting it from several aircraft that are not in use. The same aircraft sumped all the time you may not get much water depending how much the tanks are sweating. The Mr. Funnel is an interesting item and probably a good idea but I don't have much faith in their 127 micron filter.

If you get pieces that big there is something wrong with the refueling equipment IMO.

jp 8

I think we should try some jp-8 in our trucks . We need to take a chance and see if this stuff is as good as they say it is.

Where can I get some?

I have run waste motor oil , "contaminated jet fuel" and waste veggie oil in my 24 valve motor for years now. . :) with no ill side effects ! I do run a racor water/fuel filter/seperator near the tank though.

Cummins Has A Great Service Bulletin 3379001-05 "fuels for Cummins Engines"

Highly Recommened :D

i know an old hay hauler who used to be able to go on the air bases and pick up jp8 and run it in his trucks said it was the best stuff to run in his old gray motor(cummins nickname) tons of power and wonderful fuel econemy ran it whenever possible said it was clean burning too

I know mechanics that have run sumped fuel from jets that would otherwise be tossed out. (or run in the fuel delivery truck)

They would add some PRIST if it wasn't already in the fuel.

Bingo. Sump fuel is dumped into a bowser and is considered "reclaimable", meaning it can be used again of filtered and processed.

I'd never put it in a CTD.
