Nope. I didn't see it in my 04. 5's owner's manual as an alternate fuel. My '95 12V listed several grades of JP that it could use. JP is pretty pricey, isn't it?

Cummins is pretty good about answering emails with technical questions. I would drop them a line and ask about what specific grades might be OK for your engine. I do recall my 2nd gen owner's manual listing specific jet fuels for use in that engine.



At $1 a gallon, if you could burn JP that would be great!
 
It depends on which jet fuel. I believe the only one that isn't ok (per my owners manual) is JP4. Also, it says not to run it for very long, as it doesn't have the same lube qualities of #2. My manual lists about 10 different fuels that will work.
 
I'd imagine lubricity in jet fuel would be pretty low. Aircraft jet engines need flow rather than lube to run. We've dumped JP-8 in diesel engines before when we needed to with no ill effects but I wouldn't put it in my own truck.
 
JP-8 has more lubricity than JP-4 because it has less Naptha. In the older mechanical (P-700) pumps, it was not as big an issue to mix jet fuel and diesel. There was enough sulphur in the older #2 to ensure lubrication on the pump. Just check the Cummins recommendation for running kerosene (#1) and you'll get an idea of how to mix or how long you can run #1 without damage. Extremely cold weather is the only time I would attempt to run it just to lower the gel point. Jet has icing/gelling inhibitors.
 
JP-5 is also the backup fuel to use on a UH-1H, JP-4 and JP-8 being the primary fuels (I was a crewchief a long time ago). There's no point in using aviation fuel in your diesel. It doesn't give you any extra oomph, and it might very well ruin your internals... . at least on these new Gen 3 motors.

I think they are just tryin to be cheap...
 
Ran lots of JET A in my 2000. Added 5% lube and no problems. Neighbor gets it for free from the airport. Have not tried it in my brand new 06. . Engine stalls when cold, little less power and about 3 mpg loss. .
 
Military runs JP-8 in combat zone

This is done to simplify the supply chain. It is hard on engines, however. It is especially hard on the 6. 5 L GM Turbodiesel in the M1114 Up-Armored HMMWVs. We keep spare crate motors to replace them.
