This could be a fun one

I would say that the current version of VW diesel engines have quite a bit more pep than did the rabbit versions. I would guess that the current VW autos are heavier too.

I had a '78 Toyota Corolla that weighed 1900lbs, had NO safety equipment other than seat belts and belted out about 70hp. It got about 45mpg on the highway.

The new Jetta weighs about 3000lbs, has 6 airbags, anti-lock disk brakes, a very safe chassis and has 100hp. It gets a little better mileage but is much quicker and WAY more comfortable. Of course I paid $4k for the Corolla and $26k for the Jetta...

A guy I work with has a ford escape hybrid and it sees mostly open road miles and he gets around 21-23 mpg on average. Not sure if he has had problems with it yet.

My understanding is, that on the highway the engine runs most of the time, not the motor... and the Escapes were never know for their good gas mileage... My daughter's Prius gets about 45-47 on the road, and about 55-58 in town... .

I want a new Jeep GC w/ Blue/Tec... .
