i am about to buy a new john deere 5225 4wd with a 55 hp 3. 0 5cylinder. it's a 5030t power tech read about it here

http://www.deere.com/en_US/rg/productsequipment/productcatalog/ind/t2_pt/5030/series/index.html

my question is 55hp out if this 3. 0 l is conservative the engine is rated over 99hp in generator applications can this engine be turned up?

one note the injector pump is mounted inside the block and so are the injector lines?? how do you bleed lines once air locked?? anyone know about this engine? notice how the turbo blows directly into the valve cover???

oops, guess I should have looked first :(

PTO hp is 45, flywheel is 56 hp

I would be more concerned about overheating under load or drivetrain damage than hurting the engine.

I have not actually run one of the new 5225 tractors, but that Deere PowerTech series of engines puts out some impressive torque numbers. I can't find specifics on the 5225, but I am sure that the torque is class-leading.

I drove a new JD 4520 with the 4-cylinder version of that engine and it was impressive. That tractor sounded fantastic! The Deere's sound would enter into my buying decision if I was in a position to upgrade tractors.

I think that the engine would need to be 'chipped' to increase the power. I am just guessing about this, however.

i bought the tractor yesterday one problem it idles at 1100rpms :( of course i said that cant be right and the ******* said yea thats normal blabla so i got my little maintenance book after spending 30k and it says 900rpms idle +/-50rpm so i called the dealer and he said he would figure it out. the tractor arrives at 4:00 today :) the pump is an internal mechanical pump and injector lines with all in one valve cover/air intake intergrated which leaves on to question how bleed air out of the internal injector lines if you run it out of fuel?

regards to the sound of the engine it sounds like a 24valve cummins (bad to the bone) it was a real turn off to hear the kubota (poppy airy sound) plus the deere has a little yoyo turbine on it. the tractor with 4wd and many other amenities was only 24K but after front end loader etc the price rises quickly. one word though HOSS.

Newer JD's usually self prime

I have a JD4600 compact utility 4WD hydrostatic drive tractor/ loader and absolutely love it, (four cylinder - 43hp net & only 34. 5hp to the PTO because of the hydro trans. ) I pretty sure they self prime if you run them out of fuel. This unit replaced an old JD820 utility tractor which was a good bit heavier but 5 times harder to manuver around with when mowing and doing tight turn loader work.
