Is John Deere scamming me, or are there benefits to using their recommended JD Plus motor oil versus using another good quality oil? JD 6081; 375 HP; Computerized fuel injection; Marine Use. Thank you

Was it the Plus-50 oil? With it, they say you can extend the oil change interval out an extra 50hrs over the suggested interval (250hrs on ag engines anyhow, 300 w/Plus-50).

Don't know what is different about it over the other oil for sure. Probably the additive package more than anything.

We use Cenex 15-40 engine oil at the farm where I work. Seems to be an excellent oil.

If you put a by-pass filter on it, you could extend it even farther, as per the oil analysis.

Thanks again BMoeller. It is the Plus 50 that the previous owner was using. Now I know why it's called Plus 50. JD gives the same hourly oil change interval for marine as Ag. (250 hrs. ). That's good, as the Isuzu in my old boat called for changing every 100 hours; you'd no more turn around and it was time for another change.

one thing to remember, JD does tell you " NOT TO USE PLUS 50 OIL" immediatley after overhaul. use conventional 15-40 for initial fill and change after first 100 hrs. You can use the plus 50 after the initial break in.
