Hey everyone! I just got my first 1st. gen D/C. :cool: It's a Single Cab D350 Flatbed with an automatic transmission (what kind I don't know... Getrag??) It has 107k Miles on it. The transmission was rebuilt and a new torque converter was put on, new brakes were installed also about a year ago. I took delivery of the truck in northern California and drove it back home to southern California the same day. It runs like a champ.

I will be searching for some questions that I have and I hope to learn more about these reliable beasts!

PS... . Anyone wanna buy a 1999 24V D/C? It's for sale now. :{

I wish you the best. Would be nice to see more of these old engines in the fleet of school buses as the electronic engines are a job to keep on the road. And the 'tronic/computer controlled Allison. All in the name of "Progress" I suppose. At the least, the air is clean all but for the road dust the kids breath in and the EPA has yet to do anything about the smell from the local dairy/hog farms... ... ... ... . :-laf

Welcome

Throw a little sawdust in with the diary farms, and it'd bring back fond memories of my youth and the rodeos I rode in... ... . There is a diary right across from WalMart here, and people gag and hack when the wind is right. g/f and I just inhale deeply and sigh, "smells like home. "

Familiar Pattern

Your story kinda reminds me of me. I finally got me my first Cummins Diesel in 01 when I bought mine new. Then two years ago I got my 92. Then last year a 93 4X4. Last month I got a totaled 93 doner for a conversion. Now my 01 is for sale. :-laf Progress.

Nope. The Getrag is a manual from those years(first gens). Good thing is that just about all the answers are in here. You have come to the right place. Some times the old hands will sit back a spell and see if you can find them in the archives. Every thing from the front bumper to the rear bumper has been discussed here.

Welcome

I agree completely, welcome to the group. I did a lot of "undergrad" work in the archives here and have learned tons!

The non-intercooled autos were the good old 727's and the later ones with OD were the 518 which is basically a 727 with an electrically actuated OD solenoid.

No Lockup TC. Factory TC mushy, a number of debated aftermarket TC's out there. I researched lots on them here just before my 5-speed parts truck showed up.

Something about old technology where you can actually work on them and understand how everything works together I find appealing.
