Airstream Trailer

I can't seem to get a real smooth action on the movement of the cable. When I come to a normal stop I may have about 1. 5 - 2. 0 amps on the readout. Pressing the brake a little harder does not change the reading. Press the pedal just a little bit more and suddenly the readout jumps up to 5 amps and I really feel the trailer brakes come on.

I've got the display module mounted to the right of the ash tray, the cable sheath comes out of the bottom of the unit and curves to the left. It travels more or less horizontally along the lower edge of the knee bolster and then curves around under the bottom of the bolster to the pedal. Do I have too many bends in the cable? or what?

The actuator on the brake pedal bracket has a spring in it - should I tighten the nut on the end of the actuator to put more preload on the spring? What about lubing the cable inside the sheath?

We're leaving next Friday and I'd like to have it working a little better than it is now.

Thanks for any advice you Jordan owners can give me.

I had the same problem with mine. Tried different springs, grafite lube on the cable with no change to the sticking problem. The only thing that finally cured the problem was to make a bracket and relocate the unit directly in line with the brake pedal. Now works very smoothly and no more jerking the trailer. I can't see the readout easily but after setting the gain, it doesn't change so I guess it doesn't matter.

The controller mounted to the right of the ash tray seems to be too much of the way for the cable to be aligned with the brake pedal. I mounted mine on the knee bolster upper right, just left of the ash tray. there is very little cable bends. Also the brake pedal bracket is mounted about 5 1/2" measured straight up from top of the brake pedal. I would say the controller should be mounted as much aligned possible with the brake pedal, follow the instructions closely and you should be OK.

If you still have problems don't hesitate to call Jordan, I've spoken to him a couple of times and he answer the phone must of the time and is very good in helping you out.

Good luck,

Fred.

If you are still getting any reading when the brake is released, then you need to adjust the cable. Is there still slack in the Jordan cable? If so then you might have it pinched too tight or too many bends. If the cable is tight then it needs to be adjusted. Loosen the clip holding the cable and adjust in til you get a slight reading when you very slightly press on the brake pedal. If all else fails, call Jordan- he's helpful and easy to reach.
