I just got my Westach fuel pressure gauge from Genos installed as I was very curious about my fuel pressure after installing the Jannetty racing enterprises Carter inline fuel pump... The install was a BITC_ being as I have a short bed with very little line to work with... that's another topic...

I also replace my lift pump at the same time. . 32k miles...

Readings: At idle 22psi

At Wot 12 psi

To say that I am very satisfied with the JRE pusher would be an understatement...

Being as I already have 3 gages on the A pillar, my location for the fuel pressure gauge??????? In the ashtray!!! and it even has defacto lighting at night:)

Cheers, Bill

I also installed a Carter pusher pump at 19,000 miles as well as a fresh lift pump up front. Also did my buddies truck the next day. It did take care of the psi drop problem, but as for the pusher pump keeping the factory POS lift pump from failing is still up for debate.

I now have 40,000 miles and have had to change my front lift pump 2 more times. The other truck I did at 17,000 miles now has 38,000 and is still running strong. If the lift pump goes out again, I'm going to rip them both out and try the 18 psi summit pump. Until someone comes up with a better solution, it's still all trial by error. Good luck.

BSEITZ:

I am currious as to what your pressures looked like after the lift pump failed with just the pusher operating. .

Thanks

BILLUA,

I have the same pusher setup as you and also see 22psi @ idle. Mine is also in the ashtray & I actually kinda like it... . :D Fuel pressure is not like boost and EGT where you need to keep an eye on it all the time. The ashtray is perfect for this since it is out of your way, but not too far away where you can still glance at it as needed. ;)

toolman tim has his mounted in a gauge pod that replaces the top half of the steering colum cover looks like a good spot as i will have 4 gauges in the near future also .

Sttering column gauge pod

I tried the Autometer Steering column gauge pod. I did not like it for a number of reasons. It covers up most of the annunciator lights, especially the wait to start etc. The mounting is not as sano as I would like it to be. Cleaner look without the gauge there. I agree with Dezlpwr that the fuel gauge is not something that needs to be referenced all the time. Maybe once a day or so, so the ashtray really is a excellent location for this gauge.

Just my . 02c

Cheers, Bill

BILLUA: Both times the lift pump did not fail completely. The first time, the psi fluctuated between 10-14 at an idle and drop below 5 at WOT. The second time, I think it was a connector problem. At idle it would go from 22-33 to 10-12 for a few seconds, then right back to normal. This went on for about a week. Finally got around to replacing the front pump AGAIN, and all is well for the time being.

If you are refering to Summit pump from Summit parts magazine... I used one for three months in my car the noise drove me up the wall, and I only drove the car on weekends! (It's loud. ) I still have it on the shelf, if you are interested in it let me know and I will send it to you.

I too am running the Carters(4600Hp to a 4601HP. ) both of mine are on the frame. Is your front pump on the frame or on the engine?

OPZ01: How much louder is the SUMMIT pump verses the CARTERS. I have a reg. cab, and I can here my pusher pump with the stereo off. It does'nt bother me that much. Besides from 2-52 psi all I here is my B-1 and my exhaust. Also would like to know how your pressures were at an idle and at WOT. Thanks.

BSeitz,

I would say it is twice as loud, IMO it sounds like an impeller is out of balance. Like I mentioned earlier it was being used on my car. So I don't know if my B1 would cover it up or what pressures are at WOT.

Opie

Some of the noise from the pusher pump can be transmitted through the frame. Carter has a “Quiet Pack” for their fuel (pusher) pump. Part number is 1814-U. These are rubber isolators that attach between the frame (or mounting plate if you do it like we did) and the bracket that Carter supplies that has the supplied rubber “O” rings that helps isolates vibration. FYI…
