Received a nice package today, Thanks Piers!
The HX40 turbo with a 16cm2 wastegated housing.
I will be testing this turbo on both a 97 12 valve and a 98. 5 24 valve, over the next few weeks and will report, Honest Real world results.
Stay Tuned!

What!! You are such a tease TJ #ad

I have one on the way and look forward to the results also. Have you heard of any HX40 turbo bombs going off??? [Censored] has seen several. This sounds like a day ruiner #ad
I may need to chain my turbo to the frame for safety sake #ad
It seems to me that a pair of smaller turbos would be less volatile than a single large version. What do you think "Turbo Ted"???

Ted. . I can. t wait !! hurry and test I'm very interested in this myself. . !!!. . looks like the 18cm housing is for the maxed guys, I'm only part way there. . Gary

Big Willy, you surely won't like the larger housing in the bumps(hills) up your way. Sport Bike mentioned the 16 behaves quite well and retains some power under 1800 rpm's.

Yeah I know, I figured I would stir things up a bit since I have been so quiet lately.
Been very busy with the expansion at the shop.
The turbo's breaking shafts has been a concern of mine since I first heard of the Idea of using an HX40 on a B series, I atrubute this to the compessor being too large for the engine.
Boost with no place to go.
I don't think it will be problem if you keep the wastegate in operation, and set it for 40 psi.
I often thought about twin turbos, since I have two sitting on the shelf for my small block Chevy race car.
When I install these on the race car I will be able to choose my HP from 1200 to 1700. HEHEHE!!!!
I think it would be a plumbers nightmare.
with little or no advantage.
Diesels have very little exhaust energy to drive the turbo, and to split it up would only hurt things.
This is why they always loose torque when going to a larger turbine housing.

Willy, we are talkin' HX40 here as Ted mentioned initially. I have the 16 winging its way to my door as we speak. The point Ted made sounds like good thinking. The exhaust is increased in size but the supply side is relatively untouched. The poor turbo suffers whiplash during shifts of the manual transmission. Snap goes the turboshaft!

Ted I know your a racer, I could hardly tell by you page, any way, if you say why or what makes more than 1 turbo so undisireable. I seems to me almost ever world record I know of with turbos involved more than 1! So someone lets try maybe 3 little ones, one turbo for 2 cylinders. Ever seen the fastest big rig, 1500 ci, 4 turbos, oh boy

how about a 14cm/HX40 for those of us not in the upper horsepower numbers , i notice the lag with my stock 12cm/HX35 , the black cloud seems to be the give away ... #ad

I had the housing upgrade before and like my HX40 MUCH better. Very good setup!!!!!!!

Good idea CJ, although we will have to watch what we catch on film so to speak, don't want anyone to know about the [Censored] #ad
I am very curious about a twin turbo system though. I may give you the HX40 to install on your Jeep! I plan look up this guy who has supposedly engineered several twin systems for other Rammers. Seems like you would get better low end response and have the advantage of low restriction at high rpm's.

Hey CJ, I missed you at the meeting last week, surely you have finished the flooring project! Dave's new "01 was nearly as big as the Restaurant we held the meeting in #ad

HVAC the floor is done, but I was working late, I almost went right from work but I would not have felt right showing up in a Chevy truck, thought you guys might throw rotton vegetables at me. #ad

I can blur any top secret stuff in a picture to protect the innocent and insure national security. #ad

Oh no CJ, all the rotten vegetables we don't eat we save for the stray PSD that wanders into the lot #ad

You should have come from work, you would just have to park in the designated non-diesel parking space. You know the blue one with the wheel chair! LOL

I guess I kept you guys hanging long enough, and I have enough data to give a decent report.
Keep in mind for every action there is a reaction.
This turbo is not for everyone.
I have recieved several emails requesting this turbo and there is too much misunderstanding of its intent.

It is intended for High Hp situations.

First off I have to say that it is not for towing applications.

It wouldn't be fair for me to compare this turbo to the stock one because it will never have the response unless you put it back on a hot 8. 3 Cummins.

Over all I am quite pleased with the performance in the upper RPMs all though it doesn't start to show it's colors until 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

The (RESPONSE)(ONLY) can be compared to a good running unmodified 215 hp 12v 5spd, but after that Hang on to your hat!

I have been able to set the AFC, star wheel and spring combo for a almost zero smoke acceleration, with good response, This is a good thing, I could not acheive this with the 18cm2 equipped HX40

In 3rd 4th and 5th the truck flat out hauls.

I can run the Mighty test mountain at 95 mph in fifth before EGT gets too high, and I have to lift.
That is 5mph faster than the stock turbo.
Ran it at 100 mph with no EGT with the 18cm2 HX40 but couldn't deal with the lost towing performance.

EGT can still be problem above 2800 rpm at full throttle with the plate and injector combo I am running. JRE Stage 3 and 370 hp injectors.

I have set the wastegate for 42 psi, this is sufficient to burn all the fuel cleanly.

I also tested this on a 99 24 valve, auto, 4. 10, 4" exhaust, 275 injectors, Van Aaken, 4 wire Blue box set on 40%, Low stall converter, shift kit, BD Pressure Lock.
YEEEE HAAAA!!!!
I believe we have created a 14 second 4x4 truck that can be driven daily.

We obtained very good results in this truck because of the Auto and 4. 10 gears.

My recommendations are;
This is for the serious horsepower junkies!!!

Best application would be 4. 10, auto, trucks with heavy fueling.
Next best would be 3. 54 Auto
Then 4. 10 5 spd models

The 5 spd and 3. 54's is too high a gear combo , I find my self driving around in 4th when I should be in 5th, to keep the response I so miss.

All in all it fits the bill for it's intended use, HOT ROD TRUCKS.

It is well worth the money to get this from BD or there dealers, since it comes complete with the down pipe, is machined and clocked to bolt right up.

I will be happy to answer specific situation questions if I missed something.
