2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission junk headlite switches

What is everyone doing about there headlite switches burning out ? last one was a borg warner#s2064 when I replaced it in november I cut out the factory molded plug that was burnt and crimped on good quality push on connectors. I have no extra load except 3 -194 mini bulbs in my autometer gauge pod. Is there a better switch available ? This is sad having to fix the same thing over and over again.

The only sure way that I know to fix headlight switch problem once and for all: install CAJM 8190. This "kit" includes a relay and is meant for 1 tons but it will install into 3/4 T. I put one into my 95 Ram.

Went to 2, 5 -star dealers here in mass and one wouldnt sell me the kit at any price . The other didnt have it to sell but did LET me buy the 79. 00 headlite switch that comes with a FREE pig tail that solders in place of old plug. I will install what i have to get back on the road for now. Anyone know a way for me to buy one of these relay kits?

The same kit, for customer pay tickets, is 82204724 which is $99. 00 MSRP (called a Trailer Tow Wiring Kit).

Thanks for info. I see 819 applies to 3500s and 820 pertains to trailer tow/acces. lighting. Mine is a 2500 and I have the trailer tow option so I assume none of this refers to me, eh?

The way I read Customer Satifaction Notice 820, the part that applies to you is "Your truck should not-have additional lighting wired directly through the headlamp switch without the use of a relay. Doing so could result in abnormally high electrical current draw through the headlamp switch, which may cause it to overheat and fail. A failed headlamp switch may lead to the loss of headlamp and/or parklarnp operation. "



Taken together, Recall 819 and Customer Satisfaction Notice 820 indicate to me that the headlight switch on your truck is marginal. The additional low wattage bulbs on the 3500 are enough to cause a failure.

My '02 cab and chassis came with a plug and play wiring harness for a brake controller and has a seperate wiring harness to the back of the truck[for a trailer] Do you guys know if I have the relay included in this setup? When I wired my utility body, I used the tailights to power one additional tail light and added LED's for stop/turn signal. A real attention getter for tailgaters.
