Thieves Get In Easily

Hey guys this is my first post, so here goes. I hauled some firewood in my 2005 quad cab long bed. I put the pieces in the bed one at a time and only loaded it up to the top of the bed. I stopped and washed it out yesterday and the bed is all dented up. I am so mad. A $41,000 truck and the bed dents. I could actually feel the bed metal bending under my feet. What good is all the power and torque if the bed falls apart? Just venting. I will get my sig. filled out and post some more some time. Thanks

Mike

Thin metal, the thinnest of any truck. The sheet metal is so thin, you can dent just by leaning on it. On the long bed, just below the fuel door, that section is weak. Just way to thin, then the morons make the Rockem-Sockem commercial? Total garbage...

Who cares... . it's just the bed. A real truck gets used and the bed gets scrached and dented... whats the problem?

Maybe the morons at Dummly Chrysler will read your post and make the all new 2008 even thinner. That way, when a little girl climbs into the back of your truck it will look like it was hit by an Avalanche. No it is just not a bed, it is a farce. They should be thicker, that way you "CAN" call it a truck.

Do not hijack this thread... This is about the thinnest sheet metal to ever grace a truck. The rockem sockem robot commercial, is as believable as Al Gore and global warming.

bed

mike i feel your pain, i am about to take my bed off, and make a medium duty aluminum dump body on my 06. last summer i was washing my truck and put a small dent in it. i was not happy to say the least. if i was given the option for a heavy duty bed like 80,s bed. i would have paid for one. kp

Rhino Liner... . Line-X... mmmm, wonderful invention.

I suppose manufactures don't see the point in wasting extra money on thicker gauge metal when they are trying to improve the gas mileage of their vehicles and increase the performance of their vehicles. Furthermore, if they were to use thicker sheet metal in the bed, that would increase production cost, which would then increase the price tag. So that $41,000 dollar truck you just bought, is now a $43,000 truck with thicker sheet metal in the bed that will most likely dent no matter how thick the sheet metal is. And I can almost guarantee that the foreign auto makers are not using any thicker metal in their beds. They need to save all the weight they can! If ya know what I mean. ;)

it's not JUST in the bed. the sides of my 06 are so thin you can push a dent in with your thumb (crushability mandated by the NTSB) Just our "wonderful" goverment protecting our *****'s

Anyone measured the sheet metal thickness? Most cars used to be . 032 thick and Toyota were . 029 thick back in the 70's. Haven't check any in a long time myself:cool:

I had over $5,000 dollars worth of hail damage just 6 months after getting my 04. 5 The hood, roof, top of front doors were bagged up pretty good. They replaced the hood and wanted to replace the roof. I really didnt want the roof cut off and a new one welded so I had them repair the roof. Half the truck got a new paint job after the repair work. My 95 F350 was parked in the drive right next to my Dodge and only had a few dents in the chrome ring around the winshield. They don't make them like they used to. I put the Dodge in the barn now when the weather calls for hail.

Vote your dollars.

It sounds like some people are being coerced to buy trucks that they don't want. Do some dealerships grab people off the street and put a gun to their head? Mayby they sell vehicles out of a catalog and do not let the customer touch the vehicle until the irrevocable contract is signed in blood.

My suggestion is if you don't want it then don't buy it. If you bought it and no longer like it, then sell it or trade it in on something else.

That is great, so go start your own thread about how robust the Dodge Lam is! Maybe the morons at Dumler will read these posts and do something about it.

I feel your pain. To the tune of $855. 36. Parking lot hit and run.

The good thing, is the skin was only damaged not the side impact protection of the driver's rear door.

I haven't checked other brands to see if their sheet metal is better. I doubt it is.

Sorry, I did not know that this was a private thread reserved for Ram bashers. I was under the understanding that this was a public forum for members to express their concerns, experiences, and helpful solutions to common problems. It is my opinion that when you express a perceived problem in a negitive fashion, do not ask for help or offer a solution, then it is behavior that is called whining. I guess I don't want to join your private club so I will refrain from any more post to this thread. Everyone should be happy. If your not happy with your Ram then solve your problem.

I do have a rhino liner and it didn't help anything. The only thing that stuff is good for is preventing scratches. Its not like I threw the wood in the bed. I stacked it very carefully and just from the weight, it dented. I am not whining about it, I was just expressing my disgust with how cheaply stuff is made for the price. Afterall, it is a truck, and it is meant to haul stuff!

I am sorry but I gotta call BS on that. YES, the metal is thinner than my grandfathers 1972 Ford Ranger 3/4 ton. But if you have Rhino Liner AND you simply set the wood into the bed without tossing it then I say no way.

I have hauled wood many, many times and I have never seen anybody stack it in a truck like they were building a house of cards or something. They always tossed it in.

Now, if you want to talk about why the trucks are made so thin, that's another can of worms. There are many reasons why. Cost and weight are two of them. Unfortunately, a lot of people are buying trucks (myself included) for purposes other than actually "work". Some of those folks (myself NOT included in this case) like to ***** and moan about how rough the trucks ride compared to a friggin' car.
