The agony...buying another truck.

I bought ext warranty for my truck a year ago good for 5 years or 150'000 miles this last feb 4 my truck died and was hauled to shop. It turned out to be the pump in the tank @ the inj pump. It took 2 months for them to ok the work they would not pay for inj pump because they say it is incidental damage not covered. will pay 371. 50 for parts @ labor for in tank fuel pump: The other thing that is wrong is the check ing light is on had code read and it needs a new fan clutch witch my warranty covers. They say they wont cover the condenser fan. I have been arguing with these people for to weeks now about this condenser fan they keep calling it. This company will not talk to you on the phone only emails The place i bought the junk from wont help me they said they no longer sell there junk Have any of you dealt with GREAT ADVANTAGE Sorry about the long rant but it made me feel bett:-{}:-{}er

You now know what you needed to know about aftermarket warranties.

I have never in my life purchased an extended warranty for any product I have owned and have never regretted my decision.

A warranty is nothing more than an insurance policy. An insurance policy allows the buyer to pay for someone else to take the risk instead of himself. You bet that a covered item on your truck would fail during the policy period and bet that the failure would be covered under the complicated rules established by the insuror. The insurance company bet they wouldn't have to pay and they make and interpret the rules which shifts the odds of winning to them.

Aftermarket warranty companies are always located in another state far from the reach of your attorney general's consumer protection or insurance departments and are always known for sellling lots of policies for three to five years then going out of business to avoid paying.

IMO aftermarket warranties or extended warranties are never a bargain.

Absolutely NEVER buy an aftermarket warranty... Its something that I too had to learn the hard way. Have never made that mistake again.

As for what you can do about it, some warranties are "refundable" you might see if you can sell the remainder of the warranty back to the company you bought it from... . I'm sure it will be pro-rated down, but atleast it will be something. Then after you cash the check, let them have it with the BBB, attny. generals office, anywhere. .

The one thing I could never understand is why well known people such as Rusty Wallace are hawking US Fidelis. Don't they earn enough on the NASCAR circuit? I read somewhere, possibly on another forum, that the owner of USF has the largest home in Missouri in case you were wondering where your premium $ went.

Junk Warranties!!!

Denial (NO-PAY) seems to be the norm for other types of warranties also!!

We bought a "La-Z-BOY" recliner and the Covering Guard (will fix or replace)

treatment. 9 months or so later, the finish started coming off the leather covering!! When contacting Za-Z-BOY, they did not have the decency to take any action. The company that sells the covering treatment denied any responsibility.

I would not, personally, buy another furniture covering treatment, or another chair from La-Z-BOY.

NO... . Have you ever seen him drive?... its like having another "Miss Daisy" on the track!!. .

My rig went out of warranty after 36 K. During the first year and a half I put away $100 a month into a separate bank account to be used only for repairs on my truck. In effect, I am now my own insurance company I guess. I currently have around $2,000 in the account and havn. t had to use it yet (knock on iron)! The extended warranty that the dealer wanted me to buy is no longer sold there (go figure) but it was going to cost me $2500 anyway. I still have my money in the bank and I am still covered. This is one way to go but I admit that I am still rolling the dice with an engine replacement or something like that but I still have the Cummins warranty till 100K and the emission warranty also so I feel pretty safe.

Honestly, I haven't. I don't follow Nascar any more, as it's become like other so-called sports, now it's just big business. And the cars don't even resemble anything you can buy in a showroom. When I was a kid, you could visit your local Ford or Chrysler showroom and buy the same engine Nascar was using in their race cars- not any more.

yes I know... . I wish I were a teenager back then... . that was the hay-day of Nascar... I like watching the old flashback races when the guy pulls into the pts, smokes a cigarette while the crew performs a 45 second pitstop while wearing polyester pants!!!. .

When we bought our 02 Chrysler Concorde we bought the Chrysler extended warranty for around $1895. 00. We had a cam sensor go out & wiped out the main computer. I saw the bill & it was around $3100. 00. In that case the extended warranty paid for it's self.

My Dad took out an extended warranty with a 2nd party insurance company after he died my brother extend it again.

Coming back for South Carolina her car left us on the side of the road about 9 miles from my business. The extended warranty covered the repairs( but my Dad was in hte insurance busines).

Which Buick should of paid for because they knew that some plastic piece of junk they put between a gasket and the head and engine (or intake manifold and head) deformed when the engine got hot (not over heated) it then leaked coolant.

Insurance is simply a company saying " Ill bet you $500 that nothing will break on your truck. " It doesnt promise to fix it, and if they do have to fix it, they make it so painful that you give upbefore they have to. Insurance will be the downfall of capitalism.

This subject comes up from time to time. Several of us post that aftermarket warranties are generally a waste of buyer's money but someone always posts how their warranty saved the day.

The aftermarket warranty insurance industry is built on the premise that the insurance company will pay out less for repairs than the premiums collected and therefore earn a profit off premiums collected. I don't want to bet against them since they make and interpret the rules.

I buy cars and trucks that I am confident will be reliable and use and maintain them properly. I have never had a failure that would have been covered by a warranty that caused me to regret my refusal to buy an extended warranty from the dealer or an aftermarket source.

Each to his own.

What are the differences between something like the Chrysler Max-Care extended warranty and something like the US-Fidelis that was mentioned earlier? Or, are they essentually the same with except for the company that is selling the coverage? The only reason I ask is, according to the boss, my new work truck has a Chrysler Max-Care 5/70K warranty on it.

The warranty sold by an authorized dealer backed by the manufacturer, Chrysler in our case, is a much better bet than an aftermarket warranty policy.

Chrysler's warranty is sold to increase Chrysler's and your dealer's profit margin, just like any other, but the terms and conditions under which it will pay for repairs is not weazel-worded to trick or cheat you like and aftermarket policy is. Chrysler will pay as their policy indicates they will subject to the opinions of the technician and service manager of the repairing dealer.

Again, I wouldn't buy either but I would put more faith and trust in a factory warranty than an aftermarket one.

All true, what HB says. But note that even with Chryslers various e xtended warranty options, the ONLY one which covers nearly EVERYTHING, except what are considered to be wear parts (clutch, brake pads, etc. ) is the MAX-CARE warranty. It is virtually bumper to bumper, with a deductible that you get to pick. It is also the only Chrysler warranty that is sold, for a slight extra cost, with a premium refund option if you happen make it through the warranty period with no claims.

I bought the 100k/7 year MaxCare warranty and it has just about paid for itself by paying for HVAC door repairs and trackbar and shock replacement.
