I've been called 6 times in the last seven years.

I actually only had to go in once but I had to plea to 3 different judges why I couldn't serve!

Supposidly, it's a totally random drawing but I starting to think otherwise.

When I lived in N Ca, I was given an exemption because I was sole proprietor of my business.

Well, seven years later, I moved to another county, my employment status and responsibillities are the same and this county doesn't allow that type of exemption. #@$%!

My county is easily 75% hispanic. Maybe every 5/6th auto on the road may be an OTM (other than mexican)

I'm wondering if the county simply does not have enough legal citizens that can actually make it through the jury selection period.

I never look at those things I run them thru the SHREADER and dont think about it . I know THEIR GOING TO COME AND GET ME With the mail as it was in CA I was some how transformed in to Rudy Arguello got his mail all the time. In less it came registered mail I NEVER GOT IT.

I got called 2 times, and yes in Ct is supposed to be random, but there are some events that trigger your getting a notice.

One is regiistering for unemployment, the other is moving/changing your address (or maybe registering to vote, it happened at the same time for me).

I actually got 2 notices a month apart when I went on unemployement and moved 1 month later. I had to argue with them but finally got one of those abolished, then did not have ot report the day I was supposed to go.

Prior to that I got called once, ended up on a jury, a real BS case, got elected forman, and we served justice on that jury. The lying chick who claimed whiplash basically got awarded nada. (she lied, her mother lied, and her brother was very careful in how he answered but never lied). Kind of funny really, but a waste of taxpayer $$.

The day before I had to appear for the pool, the lawyers picked only 1 jury member... . after all day of interviewing. The second day the judge told them fill it or forget it. During my interview I told them I had no tolerance for BS cases, but I think it was the defense's turn to pick, and I got nabbed.

What I thought was really strange was that during the "fault finding" part of the verdict, I and one other were the only jury members who voted that it was the defendant's fault for hitting the gal from behind. The others found the car in front at fault, thinking she did not pull away from the stop sign fast enough tp prevent getting hit. WTF

No problem to Mr Forman, as the results dictated she only got 20% of any award. That amounted to basically nothing after paying the Dr to testify that she had neck pain.

It was a beautiful thing.

Haha.

Another small business owner that I know did the same thing for, . . . . . a while. Then he got in trouble. Just a warning though.

Ca has the 1 day trial deal but for the times that I've had to go, it's always for some multiple week trial and I can't be gone for more than a 1 or 2 days at a time.

Running a small one person business is not a viable reason to be excused in Ct. My wife was in that situation and she had to serve on a trial (similar kind of BS trial that I had).

:D:D Probably ol' Rudy Arguello is sitting in jail on charges of skipping jury duty wondering what the hell happened... ... ... ... . :D:D

Mike. :)

I get them every year, like clockwork, in December... . have always managed to get tossed by one of the attorneys.

In Ca, depending on the county, it can be. I've lived in Sacramento county for a few years and received a permanent off the list just because I was a one man operation.

I called this morning to be exused for another 90 days. I asked about the oddity of me getting chosen every flippin year. She giggles and tell me I"m not the only one.

She's says, " You've only had to actually go in once". "That's probably why you keep getting picked. "

If that's the case, then this random drawing is false and I feel like I'm being pin pointed.

I've been called for jury 3 times over the last 12 years. I've been lucky enough to sit on a trial each time. I may be the only one, but I truly enjoyed each experience and have felt honored to have been part of the judicial process. Some of the cases have been fascinating.

Unless the crime was committed by a Bible thumper with a funny collar and had a pack of Nun's in a Church Bus on the way to the Vatican singing coom by ya GUILTY :D

When being interviewed by pros. and def. Lawyers, simply explain that in our justice system the jury makes no difference. After the defendant is found guilty, the panty waste SOB of a judge is just going to turn him loose anyway. They will send you home .

I agree. If they're in there to begin with :) ... ... ... .

Not too far from what I said and that didn't help me.

Plus I'm an engineer and they normally don't pick them for jurys according to a lawyer friend. They view engineers as logical and basing everything on facts only. Lawyers normally want to be able to "convince" a jury by clouding the facts. At least that is what my friend said.

I actually didn't mind doing my time on the jury. Monetarily it did not affect me as I was on salary. When my wife went, she lost money because she couldn't attend to her business. Luckily hers was only a 3 day trial. Mine was 5 days spread out over 2 weeks.

I was on Criminal Court jury duty in TN and had to serve 21 days over a 6 month period. Luckily my employer picked up the tab.

One other juror cleaned and sold used bricks to a construction company. The judge made the construction company pay him for the bricks he would have sold them if he weren't on jury duty. Judge told him if the construction company owner balked to let him know and he would let the owner sit in jail until he paid!

My Son gets out of jury duty because of his job and thats cool. But with so many on unemployment there should be NO ONE having to take time away from work and loss of income to serve this travesty anyway. The court systems are broken and jails are overcrowded and they let them out OTOR anyway so what the hell is the use. Clean out Death Row!!!!! No TV/Rec Room/Gym/music/just hard labor and then I would think that I should do my part and serve jury duty. I know im Retired but I have better things to do with my time unless the above is the standard.
