I've been pretty good about keeping my filter clean and using the K&N filter cleaning solution to clean my AFE. The only problem is, the cleaning solution won't remove the oily scum trapped in the outerwear.
Since it is already black, I've been thinking it was clean all along. Today I noticed my filter-minder was in the red zone, so I did my usual filter cleaning ritual only to find that the only way to effectively clean the outerwear was with carburetor cleaner. My outerwear didn't come with cleaning instuctions, so I figured the K&N cleaner would work.
It is spotless now. My boost, spool up and throttle response are all back to normal. Not to mention, I can finally hear my turbo whistle again.
Who would of thought that a little scum in the nylon outerwears could go undetected and cause all that smoke and lack luster performance.
What's funny is, my engine compartment is spotless, yet this year my radiator was plugged and now my outerwear. I guess it's time to wrap the old oil puke line with a big tampon like Gary did. :-laf...
I guess if I had a red outerwear I probably would have noticed that it was filthy all along... ... Oh well, live and learn..... Jim
