Back in 05 or 06 Chrysler made it known that the tank vents on top of our fuel tanks were letting water and debrie into our tanks. Their fix was to put a short hose on both vents and droop it down the side of the tank shield.
The fuel tanks on our trucks are also used on the gas applications and those vents are used for the gas trucks but not the diesel trucks. Please do not block them off completely as the tank needs to vents.
Well I went out to check my new 09 and guess what, NO vent hoses.
One vent is located on top of tank about 1 and 1/2 feet from the front of tank. The other vent is located on top of the tank at the rear about 6 inches from the rear of tank. If you feel these two vents and there's just a nub on them you need to put hoses on them to avoid water and debrie ingestion into the tank. If there is short hoses on them then your O. K. but I did a little something different.
Here's what I did to my previous Dodge Cummins and now to this one. I went to Wal-Mart and bought 2 carburator fuel filters, the plastic ones you can see through. I bought three feet of 5/16 ID hose at a auto parts store, you could buy all items at auto parts store or where ever you choose.
Cut approx. 3 inches off and attach this to the tank vent. Then connect the small carburator filter. Then connect the rest of the hose and fish it down between fuel tank and fuel tank insulator. You'll see a small gap where the tank bends in by the straps, this is the place to fish the hose down through. Now after you have all the hose down through the shield cut it off at the bottom. Should have approx. 1 and 1/2 feet of hose left. Now do the same for the other vent. Each vent has a space close by to fish the hose down through there own seperate opening in the tank shield.
