Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Drive pressure

I have a 97 12 valve that I drilled a tapped the Banjo bolt at the injection pump and hooked up my Autometer mechanical gauge to it. I have a SS hose from the Banjo Bolt right to the Gauge and nothing in between them. I was able to remove all the air in the line but on start up the gauge jumps back and forth about 10 psi:rolleyes: I know it is pulsating do to the mechanical fuel pump and I need to know what is the best way to get this to stop. I was thinking of going with an electric gauge because I don’t want the diesel fuel line inside the cab or the antifreeze from an isolator either if it leaks. What would I need to do to get the electric gauge to not do what the mechanical gauge is doing now? I heard about snubbers ?

Thanks Chaz

If you look up in the 12v fequently asked questions here you will find a post by Signal73 on how he did his fuel pressure gauge. It is complete with all the parts and where he got them from... ... ... Andy

Just put a needle valve right at the banjo fitting before you hook up the stainless line. You only need to crack the valve open a little. I had to open mine so little it takes about 1 minute to get the gauge needle to full pressure. But if I open it anymore you can hear the pulses from the pump. I seen on this site how to do it but cannot remember where it was.

I too run a little brass needle valve and it has worked great for years. It came in handy once when I had an old style Autometer sender leak. I am running an electric gauge. I think you would be smart to get the fuel out of your cab for sure. Also if you go electric, don't mount the sender directly to the engine as the vibrations can damage them. Just run some fuel hose of your choice and mount it over on the fender some place.

I use a grease gun hose from the needle valve to the sender. It comes with 1/8 NPT fittings on it so less worries about leaks.

Ok well I did drill and tapped the banjo bolt at the injection pump and used the needle valve inline but no matter what I did it rattled in the truck. So I removed the filter housing and drilled and tapped post filter side and no noise in the cab:cool:

Thanks for the info
