Change my first fuel filter on my 06. Compared to my 94 it was sure easy. Got caught by the clips that held the filter. I thought I would need to screw or twist it of the cap. That is what I read but guess not. I was not sure about bending those clips out.

I agree changing the fuel filter on this truck is a lot easier than on my 97. How often do you change you filter? I have already changed mine 3 times.

I ran 15K on my 94. Had anti locking brakes. With no room to work it to 2hrs with bloody fingers when done. I hated the job.. I'm looking at about every 10K with this truck. It's a pice of cake:)

Fuel filter on a 94 with anti lock brakes. That is the truck I have. The first time is almost impossible. I keep thinking to myself. this can/t be right. I have not done my 06 whats the deal with the "clips"

“clips”!! Yes , that’s what threw me. Every thing I read said to twist filter off. Can’t be done. Had to pry the little finger clips holding the filter open and wiggle the filter off. I was sure hoping not to brake something off.

Actually, you don't need to pry on the clips. I'd be afraid of breaking something.

Just hold the cap in one hand and the filter in the other and "break" it apart.

You know, like you're breaking a stick or something.

As far as I know (I'm a long-long way from being an expert), there hasn't been any change. All 5. 9s have used the same cap since '03.

I've always just broken them apart. The procedure in my '04 service manual says:

(5) Fuel Filter Replacement: The fuel filter is

located inside of the fuel filter housing.

(a) Clean all debris from around canister.

(b) Remove filter lid (Fig. 4) using a socket.

Attach socket to large hex on top of lid (Fig. 4).

Rotate counter-clockwise for removal. Remove

o-ring. Discard o-ring.

(c) Remove filter element by twisting element

sideways from filter lid.

Bob

I have read posts here and in TDR to twist filter counter clockwise to remove. That can't be so or I'm sure missing something. So now I brake it apart??
