Only at cold start, first one of the day. Happened a week ago, by coincedence I jiggled relay and it started right up, has been running great ever since. Right now no luck. Looked at records, relay has been replaced every year it seems. Both times mech. says relay melted. What can I do to test or get back on road?

First place to check with the 12v is the fuel shutoff solenoid. That already being said, are you certain the truck has fuel in it?

I have just been going through old posts trying to locate the solenoid, I have cleaned all the positive battery terminals and it has fuel. Has run perfect for a week, then nothing. I am going to go back out and try to move this solenoid manually. I'll be back!

Sweet Jesus!!! I found the solenoid and engaged my ignition, then reached into the bottom of the solenoid and lifted the arm and boom... fired right up!

Thanks AKAMAC/rkressg

If they have been replacing the relay with a 30 amp it would continue to fail. You need a 70 amp. Look here: http://www.alliedelec.com/Search/Pr...N=R51-1D70-12&R=235-0510&sid=47422380327A617F

The fuel solenoid is the most needlessly replaced gadget on a 12 valve. It very seldom fails. It is usually the relay or the blue fusable link on the driver's side batter. I think the '98 uses a fuse instead of the fusable link. The fuel solenoid is very easy to test. Email me at -- email address removed -- for my write up on the 12 valve fuel supply system, how it works and how to fix it.
