You guys with the '04. 5 Cummins all seem to be getting the Monster 4" Exhaust kits... . I thought from '04. 5 up they came with a full 4" system. Just curious as to why.

Probably so they can lose the catacon and/or get rid of the restrictive stock muffler.

Anyone know if the muffler is now 4" in and out as opposed to 3. 5" on the pre-catalytic trucks?

Hey there Vaughn, I miss your 3rd genner posts.

I just had my stock muffy swapped with a 30" MagnaFlow and yes the muff is 4" in and 4" out.

BTW It's got me wondering just how restrictive that kitty is. When I swapped the muffy I drove straight home and took the family on a 250 mile ride to the in-laws and my wife didn't notice the muffler had been swapped. I must say the sound is (unfortunatley) not much louder than stock.

The truck does have the usuall benifits of losing the stocker though. It spools up much better and the fuel mileage has improved a little as well.

I'm thinking that if you plan to keep the kitty you should just straight pipe the 600's, the noise wouldn't be all that bad. Of course my wife would say otherwise. :-laf

I had a Banks Monster 4" Cat back system installed on my 04. 5. I posted the answer to this question a while back somewhere.

I looked at just replacing the stock restrictive muffler. There was piping needed, cutting, welding, bracket issues with doing this. Probably could have had it done for well under $200 if I collected all the necessary materials and went to shop with necessary tools(muffler shop or big rig garage).

My Banks system with the pretty 5" tip was about $485 drive out, at performance shop down the street. Took about 1 1/2 hours. It is high quality stainless, uses all factory brackets, and does have a life time warranty(for what thats worth). For me it was partly a matter of convience and time. And of course the vanity of a good exhaust system that looks and performs better that factory intallation.

I am satisfied with the Banks system. Not too loud, no drone at all and did help drop EGTs 50-75* across the board.

Yeah RankRam I don't hang out here as much as I used to, not having the '03 might have something to do with it.

Muffy, LOL. . . when you say Muffy and Kitty it sounds like you're referring to your pets under there :-laf
