It was a short bed 2500. I just happened to drive by the dealership and there were 4 brand new cummins q-cabs sitting there. Three short bed 2500's and one long bed 3500 single wheel. The one I drove had a lot more power than my 01 5speed did when I bought it. Ride was bouncy, engine was too quiet, and the front end sits way too low. I also noticed that after a I had driven about 10 miles and popped the hood, the air cleaner restriction gauge was sucked down half way. Opened the hood on another one that had just been driven and it was sucked down too. I reset it, and saw it go back to 0% restriction. My initial impression, glad I got an 01.

I'm looking forward to having decent HP without voiding my warranty. As for little nuisance items such as the air cleaner indicator, I can live with that as long as something doesn't leave me stranded somewhere. At least the kids will not be hollering about not having enough room in the back seat. Looking forward to seeing the mileage numbers on it, too. I like the looks of my 2001. 5, but can't help thinking that lowered profile will help mileage. Glad I didn't bomb my 2001. 5, dealer said they don't sell as easily.

the duramax did the same thing when it was new on the block. many over on the gm site drilled the crappola out of their airboxes to help with the restriction gauge. put in some sort of higher flow air filter assembly and you are good to go... did anyone that has popped the hood notice a mass air flow sensor? this question may have been asked [heck, i might have even asked it, but can't remember if i did or not:confused:  ] so oops if it is repeating. .

The important thing to remember is that this is not a totally new truck. The motor and transmission have been out there a while. The body and interior have a year under them too. Doesn't surprise me that things that are new and unique to this truck (such as airbox) will have some quirks. Glad to hear some reviews on it, although I wish they weren't so oriented towards "Glad I still have my old one".

IMHO

I am mainly glad I've got an 01, because I like the way they look much better, and I know what i've got. I asked the dealer to call me when a 4x4 comes in, my opinion may change then. I'm trying to keep an open mind. One concern I had was the size of the engine compartment, from the little time I spent under the hood, I could not see anything that was cramped (except the oil filter), it was very well laid out and looked easy enough to work on. I was so surprized at how quiet it was that I forgot to compare the injection system etc. I am going to have another look as soon as possible. Did I metion how quiet it was, with the a/c blowing, I had to roll the window down to make sure it was running. Serious.

I hear you on the small engine compartment! I sure hope I can get in there and change the filters. That oil filter does worry me some. I'll get by though. Just won't be changing it when the motor is warm...

Today's a pretty emotional day for me - the (2500)baby is being born in Saltillo... lol
