Just got back from the dodge dealer where I drove a 01 HO 6-spd. As soon as I got the truck on the road, I nearly turned around. The truck was a dog! My 98. 5 24V with some mods, (??), will run circles around that thing! No way I'm selling my truck!

The 6 spd was kinda nice but I couldn't get it to the interstate to really get to the gear.

If you want an H. O. , get an EZ and save your $$$.

You must have driven one that has a boost leak or something. My HO (when it was stock) would out pull and out run my buddy's 2000 model CTD Ram.

I will admit it didn't have the power I would have liked (which is now solved #ad
), it is still a mean truck. I got mine mainly for the 6-speed.

Go to another dealer and ask to drive one. I'm sure that one has a problem of some sort.

When I test drove both a 5 spd and the HO this spring, there was no comparison. Getting onto the hiway with the HO was like a rocket sled. Musta been something wrong with that ride you drove...
 
Mark,their must have been something wrong with the truck you took out for a test drive,when I test drove the trucks at Columbus,Indiana they were very fast and the one I have is like a rocket
 
Mark there had to be something wrong with that truck. . I Just drove one and I was very impressed with the power and Torque. So impressed that I ordered one but will have to wait until july for 2002 model. Please see my post " Test drove 01 H. O. 6 speed". I had a chance to test it against my 99 auto pulling a boat trailer. Please drive another one, those trucks rock!
 
Keep your truck and spend your money to BOMB it. With all that power and torque you dont need a 6 speed.

Drive a new ETC if you want to drive a PIG! You are spoiled by your bombed truck (that is also broken in). Lots of guys don't remember what their truck was like stock. I recently drove a new ETC and then an ETH, WOW what a difference. The ETH is a ton stronger, lots stronger than the ratings would have you believe.

Perhaps the ETH would be better broken in, but it can't be THAT much better.

Granted my truck has a rectangular black modification, I still think my truck stock wouldn't get smoked by the ETH.

I agree with crankshaft, I'll just bomb my truck. Then again, I have a dude who will give me 30k for it right now...

It'll take more than an EZ to get around my ETH in an ETC.

Besides, I'd rather have to buy a clutch then:
VB Kit
Coverter
Line Pressure Tweaking Thing-A-ma-bob
Wiring up a T/C loc switch...

$$$$
Talk about Forgeting it!

Just goes to show you that you need to test a few of them before you buy. I tested 1 that only showed 13mpg on the computer. THe one I bought gets 21mpg and I can light 'em up in 3rd. Buyer Beware...

I drove a couple of ETC's and an ETH. The ETH was night and day in stock trim. It had a lot more power. I had to drive an hour from the house just to find an ETH longbed. Around Dallas many dealers are 6500 off MSRP including the 1K rebate on the ETC's. No such deal on an ETH. The 6 speed is worth most of the 1k difference in my opinion. . the extra power is a bonus... CJ

All I have on my truck is a box, cost =$500, $500<<$35000.

The truck had 3. 54's just like mine.

Perhaps I drove a bad truck as I know from experience it happens. So much for D/C quality control.

I bought my truck for the transmission, and I loved how the engine performed. But then I met those CRAZY NW BOMBERS #ad

What box do you have? That has a lot to do with the difference in performance.

max a good clutch cost about the same as a GOOD VB and TC , with a GOOD TC there is no need for the TC lockup switch , unless you want to destroy your TC clutch , and whats the line pressure tweaking thing a mabob ???

as far as the HO goes , i drove one , all depends on how azcummins test drive went , the HO i drove did go nicely , good power to me was above 2300 rpm , down lo it was doggy like the ETC , how often are you really running it to the redline ?? my ETC with the auto is just fine ... #ad
 
I have to agree with the above, had to be something wrong. Mine ran like a scaled cat before any HP mods. With just the EZ, it felt like a 4 ton Corvette. Now, with what I have in it, forget about it. Well, that is to say, now, before the Mallory went out. Right now it's dead in the water and yes, you could beat it. This too shall pass. What was that statement G. Gordon Liddy made many moons ago (he said it in greek, I believe, right after the Watergate scandal and his time spent in prision) " What does not kill me will make me stronger". Man I love that #ad

The truck has been fine except for a pesky oil leak they finally got fixed Tuesday. It took that five star service exactly 5 tries too fix it. The clock spring in the column broke while at the dealer and that was fixed as well. The truck turned 4K yesterday and is around 21mpg now at around 70. I am using it as a work truck. . I drive around 1200 miles a week. It replaced a little Nissan Frontier and VW turbo whcih split the duties before. The ride is nice... I am just hoping to be able to keep it for more than a few days at a time... it is starting to look hopeful... CJ
