lop.com spyware.. i can't remove it...

Just got high speed wireless, normally connect between 500kbps and 700kbps.

I log on using Anonomyzer.com Total Net Shield and a personal firewall. Anything else I need to do to keep my surfing private from a nosey ISP or hackers/virus peddlers?

How secure is Yahoo IM?

I just got wireless a few weeks back as well. I asked the guy while he was setting up here what he had for protection. He stated he had everything running through 2 proxy servers and a hardware firewall. I added a router with built-in firewall. What are you using for e-mail? I'm stuck with MS Outlook Web Access. I don't like it as much having it all online, but oh well. BTW, I'm connecting at around 1. 5M. :D

1. 5M! :D

I use Outlook Express. It works...

Since I am logging on through Anonomyzer.com I bet I'm already behing two proxy servers. The software firewall may be redundant but I like to see who is trying to access me and what software I have is attempting to phone home.

The firewall has blocked "NT Kernel & System" from outgoing traffic 954 times in 6 hours. Wonder who and why my system is trying to send info to.

I would always use a hardware firewall. I don't like any other processes running in the background. Just less to worry about. Just plug in and forget. I was just reading an article the other day where they put some computers online w/o a firewall to see how long it would take for them to be compromised. The windows machines were snagged w/in an hour I believe. You need to remember that most hacks are automated these days.

Verizon broadband is finally available in our area, I am about to take the plunge as I have been stuck on dial-up for years with no options - no cable, no ISDN, no DSL. Thought we had DSL coming to our house but SBC put the rod to us again.

How is the broadband wireless setup overall? Have any of you tried online gaming with the setup? I am wondering what kind of pings / latency results from the wireless config - would dearly love to be able to play Return to Castle Wolfenstein online again... . just about impossible with our miserable POS telephone setup here

By the way, which broadband package did you guys select? Any recommendations?

From a couple of people I know on wireless around here it has lower ping times that cable does. I normaly run a ping time of 160 to 200 to www.zone.con when I used to play on line. The wireless runs around 100 to the zone.
