Woohoo!!! After almost one year straight of calling, and calling, and calling a local fleet manger almost every week I finally drove home my new to me P-30 tonight. It had not been started for over a year so we had to put a new battery in and then when we pulled it down the road, popped the clutch, it roared to life. After that one of the company employees that was onsite came out and showed me the "kill switch" safety feature, which I though I'd share. This van has a sliding metal "cage" behind the driver. It needs to be shut, or rather I should say slid into place right behind the driver and locked into position for the engine to fire. Otherwise the engine will turn over, and over, and over but not fire up till that door gets slid into place. If I had not been shown that I know I would have opened that cage up someday and driven myself bonkers trying to figure out how to restart the rig.
The best part is that the van has the little 4 banger cummins which the fleet maintainence documentation shows was totally overhauled just 50,000 miles ago. It runs and idles well and does not blow hardly a puff of smoke. I am so excited!!! Now I will apologize in advance for all the stupid questions that I am sure to ask.
