Yeaaaa!! Just got my new engine on Wensday afternoon. It is a '96 auto spec 180 HP with 77k on it suposedly. It has no soot inside the valve covers so I believe it has 77k. I hung it on the chain hoist and stripped off all the extra stuff I don't need like the wiring harness, transmission oil cooler - or whatever that tube on the right side was with coolant hoses going in and out, heater tubes on the exhaust manifold, fan drive ( I'm using an electric fan) Belt tensioner (I'm using an adjustable alt. ), throtle position sensor and linkage and shut down solinoid( I have a pull stop cable).
I adjusted the timing by putting the engine on TDC with the pin. Then I clamped an angle meter to the damper and set it to 0 deg. I then removed the nut on the fuel pump gear and put the fuel pump pin in place. Then I loosend the fuel pump gear with a puller. Then I pulled the TDC pin out and backed up the crank quite a bit then I tuned the engine forward till it was 2 deg. from TDC and retightend the fuel pump gear wich should put me at 15 deg BTDC instead of 13. No special tools other than a steering whell puller for the gear!!! Next is the KDP tab and GSK. This is fun! It sure is easy to work on while hanging in the air!!
Treven.
