I finally did it. After talking to MCummings, I got hooked up with a nice shop in Laredo, TX to do my stack work. After hearing how much of a perfectionist the shop owner was, I went for it. He didn't even want to cut the bed, and preferred I did it. My observasions on my 170 mile trip home were these: EGTs dropped about 100 degrees, the drone starts at a lower rpm but is not as loud, I can hardly tell the difference in exhaust sound at idle when the windows are closed, there is no stack wiggle, the exhaust sound is alot deeper, with the windows open the sound of the Cummins is SWEET. My smoke is not as concentrated now, I am guessing because I went from the stock 4" tip to the 5" stack.
I am real conscious of how hard I get on it now. I know it is louder, but I am not sure if it is just because the exhaust tip is so much closer to the cab. I am expecting my mpg to return to normal now.
All in all I am pleased, I can't believe I actually did it. Next is how to fill the void between my truck box and the front of the bed.
