I went & purchased 4 of these for wifies Sport Ute.

http://tires.michelin-us.com/catalog/tires/crossTerrainSUV.html

After 10k miles, she got a flat, which turned out to be a blowout. She hit something that gashed the inner sidewall. She didn't know she had a flat. The sound of the flat tire brought her attention to it. It was on the right rear. She drove on it a ways before she figured out she had a flat! Couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from.

She called me on the cell, I went & changed it. Other than being flat, the tire looked fine, not chewed up & the rim never hit the ground.

I threw it in the back of the truck, trekked on over to Costco & said I needed a flat repair. Now, at this time, I didn't know the inside facing sidewall had a gash in it. I was rolling it looking for the nail!

When the counter person saw the gash, we both looked at each other & it was time for the road hazard scenario. She got out the tread depth tool & measured across the tread & came up with even wear. From new, it had worn 1/32. That blew me away. These tires have 10k miles on them.

That tread wear equated to a tiny charge for the new tire. Costco ordered up the tire, mount & balanced it & away wifie went. :)

Bottom line to me, blowout, didn't destruct as wifie drove @ 70 trying to figure out what up, expensive Lexus chrome rim never touched the ground, vehicle & driver didn't have 'handling' issues with a blowout. Just cements why I bought the 265 LTX M/S's from Costco. ;)

Long winded ... thought I'd share it with y'all.

You ought to write to Michelin and tell them that story, they'll love it. They're a great tire, I hope the company keeps on doing whatever it is they're doing right.

Forrest. . do you remember who waited on you ??? my Son was recently promoted to a Tire shop Sup. there [he was a forklift driver for several years]. . they have been trying to get him into mgr. training for a long time, he wasn't ready. . now has decided to have a carrier with them, so started with first step mgr. level as a Sup.

Tall [6'4"] 28 yr. old blond named Jason.

Yup ... should Briar. They've got it working. :)

Hey Gary - Nope, wasn't Jason. I remember Jason & you're advice from my previous good experience, that went beyond just buying tires. :) Hope his future is bright with them. The guy that was there running the show was from the Pacific Islands, maybe Hawiian or Fijian.

The previous experience is where I ordered & bought the Michelin Rib tire ... same tread pattern like you see on the front of the big rigs. Got home, discovered that they are not MS/All Season rated. :( Talk about feel like an idiot ... my fault. willyslover said they have a return policy. I went back sure nuf, 100% money back guarantee, applied the $ to the next tires.

I checked at Costco (Tukwila, WA) when I was looking to buy new tires for my truck. I saw that they sell BF Goodrich's, so I asked then what the price was on All Terrain 285's. The guy flipped through a ring binder and said, "We can't order that size. " :(

last time i went into my local costco tire section, they had in stock the bfg a/t in 285/75/16. i went with goodyears when i purchased tires and from a local tire shop. $175 [cdn] per tire mounted and balenced, while costco wanted $189 for the bfg's plus mounting and balancing. .

Andy and Nickleinonen... just some reasons why... .

The Canadian locations have a different buying group than the US locations so some things are available there that are not here. .

and in the US BFG has put in some price controls that Costco will not honor so they only carry these as a service via special order therefor not the best price... [they tried to demand a retail price which Costco would not allow] there are dealers that will undercut their prices [BFG 's] and will eventually get cut off supply.

and finally . . unfortunately the buyer selects the special order tires in "the book " . . and doesn't always select the needed ones... a good Costco sales clerk should be able to call the buyer and request a tire not in the book and sometimes get them if available from the distributors whse.

Disclaimer. . no longer work for Costco. . RETIRED lol
