I need new tires NOW and I'm wanting to move up to 305's this go around. Based on the many posts I've read, it looks like there is about an 80% or better chance that the front tires will rub slightly with no lift and stock wheels. My question is just how slight is the rub? Is it enough to damage the tire at all when turning at full lock (I have to turn full lock regularly to get in and out of my garage)? Can you feel anything through the steering wheel while it's rubbing or is it pretty much unnoticable? I assume the tire rubs somewhere on the sidewall and not the shoulder of the tread.

If it makes any difference, I'm looking at the Dick Cepek Fun Country II's. I plan to eventually put on some D25 leveling springs and some new wheels but I don't want to put out that much cash at once.

Thanks!

Steve

When I purchased my current truck it had '01 OEM alloys on it already. I promptly installed a set of Skyjacker D25's & 315/75/16's (35x12. 50x16) on those rims. They would rub on full lock on the control arms and it was very noticeable, and might be a little agervating trying to get into tight places but it will still go. It will wear a little of your paint off your control arms and might make a little rubbing spot on the inside of your tires, but it never really did any bad damage that I would be concerned about to mine. Drove mine like that for 13 months before getting a set of 16x8 Eagle Alloys with 2" less backspacing. Still driving on the same tires (nearly bald :-laf ) and haven't had any problems.

Mine came with 305s on Centerlines. Slightly rubbed the plastic inner fender

when hitting a large bump with the wheels turned almost full lock.

Only enough to rub the dirt off.

I had 305/70/16 Coopers on stock chrome wheels, switched the Coopers to the Eagles when I bought them and finally when the Coopers wore out went w/Nitto Terra Graplers - never rubbed anywhere? Not sure if the stock aluminum 2000 and up wheels have a different offset which could make them rub???

I had 305 BFG MT's on my stock Aluminum wheels and didn't have a problem. Slight rub at full lock. No tire damage, only enough to rub some paint off the lower control arm.

Joe, how do you like your Nitto's. I like the looks but reviews are all over the place.

Sorry for the off topic question zman

Are you using the stock rims? They will rub if you do. I have 315's with after market rims and they have never rubbed. Get rims that have a bit of an offset. This will prevent rubbing, and it will make the tires stick out.

On my 03, the 305's never rubbed at all. On my 98, they only rub in reverse  (305/70-17 on 3rd gen rims).

But they look good ;) Its just too damn bad the 3rd gen hub caps don't fit over a dana 80.
