Combed the TDR and read all the information I could on the O3. Read many threads on opinions about keeping an older 24V or buying an 03, which most members advised on keeping the old CTD. The thoughts and opinions made alot of logic and some very good sense (. 00).
My Y2K has not missed a lick. Has 156K miles on her, great mileage and in excellent shape. The best truck I have ever owned and I'm over 60
. She has hauled almost all her life, either a 26 ft. cruiser or a fifth wheel. Not to mention trips to Alaska and British Columbia with 30 to 34' tag alongs and 5ths in the months of January, February and March for the past three years. She has just been an outstanding trk.
So today, taking all that common sense, logic and the dollar and cents issues into account, on why I should keep the Y2K, I bought an 03.
I took her out and put a hundred miles on her this P. M. after taking delivery and I'm still smiling. Was it a good decission? Hell I don't know, I do know this: I have never seen prices any lower in my life time, taking into account 3. 87 to 4. 5% loans and rebates totaling almost 5K. I have seen and believe we all will again, auto loans at 10% and more. Wait for the 04, which may or may not have some sort of smog controlling device, etc and etc. I like what I saw in the 03 and what I was reading. For my usage this will not need mods added (the Y2K did and great mods they were) and I think we have a winner in this 48RE transmission.
I Love the stick but at 60+ one needs to think about possible limited functions in the future and if you do not want to give up the places you go and things you do in retirement with the freedom and independance this Dodge/Cummins provides its owners, that 48RE may make the difference in whether you have to or not. For me, I believe the timeing for the change was NOW and besides, I'm to damn old to be to practical
