I just ordered my 05 crew 3500 single rear wheel automatic with 3:73, slt, limited slip, longbed. Is there anything I need to know to watch out for when it comes in {as I test drive it for the first time} ? And what kind of mileage can I get ? Thanks, Bill ... . I have several other TD trucks but no 3rd gen. [95 and a 2000]

Take it on the highway and check for the dreaded vibes. A few have these at about 70-75 mph. This seems to be the only item that some dealers have a tough time addressing. Anything else that comes up should be a quick or minor fix.

The mileage seems to vary on new rigs considerably. Driving style and speed are big factors as well. After break in (anywhere from 1 to 20k, depending on above factors) you should end up in the high teens on the highway.

Enjoy your new ride. :)

I've got a new one on order too. It will be waiting for me when I return home from my annual winter in AZ. I plan on taking it out to check for the dreaded vibe before I sign any papers. If it has the problem they will be more enthused about fixing "their truck" than fixing "my truck".

Like others have said, watch for the vibe at freeway speeds. I didn't have the issue on my 04. 5. I love my truck, and won't get rid of it unless it comes down to HAVING to. If I HAD to, I would...

But. . you'd probably have to just about pry the keys from my cold dead hands :D

Listen for a growl or howl from the rearend, mine does it when its cold for a few miles then quits, haven't figured it out yet! No high speed vibes for me, good luck wit your new truck :)

Get a creeper and look on the inside frame rails, for tape. Eight pieces on each side.

If its there tell dealer you want the rubber plugs. Also do a search on TDR for a new vehicle check list, its 9 pages long and covers(almost) everything.
