Well, I just had to tell someone, the old girl passed 300,000 mile on the way home tonight! Oo. She gets full fluid changes, and some annoying little things fixed in the next couple weeks to celebrate. :D

Hope all the first gens keep on trucking... ... .

What needed fix'in...

Could you give a run-down of repairs and stuff you have done and at what the mileage was when the work was done? Please give inside tips and tricks that made work go easier:-laf Good to read the old Goats keep on giving:D

Patrick.

Well, I can't do a complete list, but lets try the big stuff, going backwards... .

first is maint: My dad (bought it new) and I have done oil every 3-5K, regular dino type 15/40.

Transmission gets filter and oil every 15K

Axles and Tcase gets new 80/90 or 85/140 every 15K

BHAF every 15-30K depending on condition

grease gun comes out every oil change

300,000 Just put on a new fan clutch, needs a pass side kingpin repair to fix a wobble in front end.

293K around then I threw the rear drive shaft due to loose Ujoint straps, rebuilt shaft.

285K, A/C compressor clutch locked up, seizing comp since A/C wasn't hooked up after crew conversion. flushed system, replaced compressor, drier, and seals, recharged with R12.

280K fuel shut off solenoid replaced in Idaho Falls, alignment and drivers kingpin in Longview Washington.

275K crew cab conversion:D, new front springs, shocks and front suspension bushings. built draglink for cross over steering using the same tierod ends as the stock tierod. Installed 2000 rad/intercooler for more cooling capacity. Installed PDR 190 injectors. lengthened Dshaft, replaced Ujoints

265K replaced fan clutch

255K replaced transmission with an ATS unit, stocker didn't fail, but was really loose, and couldn't take the 30' trailer any longer (280 degrees in second gear). New tires

240K replaced front wheel bearings and brake pads/shoes, found out why the A/C died, both hoses un-threaded and fell off compressor, recharged with R134 conversion stuff, worked ok

220K replaced draglink and steering gear mounting plate that was cracked:mad:

215K Valve adjustment, adjusted full fuel screw in a little.

210K new draglink

205K truck has new owner, me:eek:

200K new tires, adjust wheel bearings, replace draglink, tie rod ends, alignment

175K truck shuts off when you signal left, never found problem.

150K fought a vibration, changed fan clutch, new rear ujoints, new tires, rear brakes, replaced drums, replaced headlight switch around this time.

120K adjusted valves, new shocks

100K new tires, Dodge replaced TPS, front brakes

50K new tires

This list should be the majority of the stuff, this is by memory, some of it was things I heard from my dad when I wasn't around but in all it should be about 90% of it. :-laf

Biggest problems I had with parts was once the stock draglink was replaced, nothing would last, same thing with the fan clutch. Oh yes, this truck kills batteries every 3 years.

That's awesome, I had as many miles on my old 89 was the best truck I ever owned. Ok, the 05 is proving to be almost as good but has 150,000 miles to go to be able to clame that distinction... ...
