Well i finally broke down and had to sell my 2000 that i loved but I was able to find the 06 i was looking for with the 6speed manual. This truck does have some miles on it for the year (just over 100k) but for the price and the old truck was starting to have some issues.

I have a few questions for you guys that have the 3rd gen.

1. Do i need a pre fuel rail pressure gage or for even at that do i need to monitor my fuel rail pressure. That was an extremly important gage for my 2nd gen.

This truck has a exhaust temp gauge and boost gauge (0-60psi on stock turbo ).

2. How can i tell if something such as a smarty or other tuner has been used on this truck. I drove it home last night 150 miles but it was in 4x4 the whole time and never got a chance to really push it. I am planning to chip this but i wondered if something had been on this sing the guy installed the two gauges and there is an AFE stage 2 under the hood.

3. I am sure like anything the fuel mpg gauge located in the headliner is not the best tool but for some reason when i got in the truck the first time the mpg was 16 so i pushed the reset button just fooling around and the whole way home it still says my average is around 32mpg what would cause that to be so far off. The dealer replaced the batteries so i am sure that had to of caused something.

4. It is pretty hard starting, i have seen in other forums that most issues lie in leaking injectors. If it is starting after a few attempts will it hurt to drive, i hope to search more and learn how to diagnos what the issue might be.

If there is anything else i should look for i would sure appricate it.

Thanks

CH

If I were a betting man, I'd have to say that it would appear some other fueling and/or timing boxes were on this rig at some point. Wait, I am a betting man - so put me down for $20!

By the way - we need more cowbell!!

Yeah i kind of suspect there has been something at one point or anouther but i have not found anything yet that is wired into the truck. Do you know if there is apoint in the harness i could find something hooked up like befor the cp3 or something.

I am just wondering if there is something still attached or for that point has been taken off and is causing some of my hard starts.

Congrats on the new ride. As for a EGT and boost gauge along with an AFE filter set-up being on the truck already it would be agreeable that there was perhaps a box, chip, downloader or some other form of enhancement. Most plug in enhancement are not visually detectable once removed as they interface with matching stock harness plugs and or they are loaded in via the OBD port under the steering wheel. The dealership can plug it into the StarScan computer and tell you if it has a footprint from being altered... . But if the previous owner was using a Smarty programmer the dealership WILL NOT see it on the StarScan. As for the AFE setup... . DITCH IT!! Look on Ebay and see if you can find a STOCK airbox. My previous 06 came with a K&N pos in it, I got a complete stock air box on Ebay for $50, I did the PSM cold air mod on it as well as a Cool Blue Tube and TAGIII from Brian at DPP Diesel. Run the new version stock filter from Mopar or if your keen to aftermarket you could go with a Amsoil Ea or AEM Dryflow... Stay away from oiled filters. As for your hard starts... Not sure. You could look at the MAP sensor harness plug, If it's cleaner than the surrounding areas you could figure someone has unplugged it and plugged it back in... That's where you interface a boost fooler like the quadzilla box.

gauges present should indicate someone was taking some care at some point.

take off the intake to the turbo and see if there are any signs of dust or damage to the fins if possible.

you can have the oil analyzed. higher soot will indicate a downloader.

I just looked at the AFE box, it is called a Pro Dry S, oil free is there still a bad vibe with using this brand and an oil free filter or should i give it a shot. Thanks for all the advice.

I run the stock airbox w/psm downtube also. However with my AFE PG7 oiled drop in my Blackstone oil analysis have been super. Silicon was 4 last check. I pulled the PG7 out after 16,000 miles and it was DIRTY. I've just cleaned it,oiled it and will pop it back in.

Did you buy it private party? I would just ask the seller what he ran on his truck. If you want a stock air box I have one and would not get rid of my AFE.
