Just replaced the fuel filter and the fuel elbow hose on my 1996.

That job STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 #@$%!

I've read dozens of threads about that job, just decided to tackle it myself (paid it to be done in the past).

I have a pacbrake engine brake, and the solenoid sits right up on the air horn clsoe to the firewall, so I can't reach in that way. Only way I could do anything is laying on top of the engine.

The little square cut round gasket that goes on the threaded fuel filter mount is really hard to get to and get off.

Wow. What was I thinking?

Don't know about the ebrake solenoid, but on mine it is a lot easier if I unbolt the master cyl and lay it to the side.

What do you do? Remove the two nuts from the studs on each side of the master, and then does the master pull forward off of the studs?

Can you remove and replace PAC Brake solenoid? Once you do it a few times it will be easier (changing out fuel filter)and you only have to do it every 12,000 miles.

It take me about 20 minutes to do mine.

ive found the best way to get my filter off is to spray my left hand with brake cleaner then spray more on a rag and wipe the outside of the filter so everything is completely shmoots free and just twist it off by hand. no tricks.

I wouldn't spray my hand with brake cleaner if i could help it . That stuff is really hard on your skin it absorbs right through your skin into your blood vessels, not good, cancer causing.

Use a tight fitting nitrile glove (white or blue) clean the filter with a rag,the brake cleaner will brake down the glove. Is your skin tougher than nitrile?

Then get a clean glove it will improve your gripping strength x2.

Be safe, your can buy more gloves but you can't buy more skin, not yet anyhow.

I cut my thumb on a braided line if i had a glove on it would have cut the glove.

I use a fliter wrench with a swivel handle to loosen it then spin it off the rest of the way by hand. I also use the wrench to give it three small turns after I tightened it by hand.

everything causes cancer and i dont think brake clean is very high on the list. theres a big bright thing in the sky that causes cancer too. if you sweat all the small stuff you might want to buy a bubble. :-laf. i mean nothing by that exect to say the studies that say stuff gives you cancer arent worth the powder to blow them to hell. by next week there might be one saying those gloves will cuse dimentia.

Yeah, that's why i don't smoke ciggy's. I do safety hazard material training for my job. I'm bombarded with this stuff all the time it becomes quite brain numbing.

But it's good to be aware.
