Roof mount spot light

I drove out! Fairbanks to Butte, MT with my 6x12 wells cargo and truck loaded to the roof and boats on the roof. The better half's subaru was packed too. I think we managed to get 75% of our junk in that trip. I've driven cross country east-west many many times, but it just doesn't compare.



Pulling all that weight on the way down I averaged about 15mpg, on the way back up empty I easily got 18 or better if I kept it slow. My worst leg was Calgary to Butte,loaded, strong winds, lots of hills, going fast 12. 7, my best run was 19. 8 mpg, the flats north of Edmonton going 55-60, empty.



What kind of boost do you serious pullers run? I tried to limit myself to 15-16lbs pulling the grades and didn't find anything I couldn't pull in 4th gear. Occasionally I would just keep it in 5th gear and blast over a very short hill at 20+lbs boost to avoid downshifting. I also had to downshift and slow down on some long hills to keep exhaust temps nice and cool.



Must have been a million fivers doing the ALCAN, you guys are in luxury, but it must be a PITA to drive those big trailers on bad roads. I mostly saw powerstrokes and duramaxs pulling those big trailers. However I did see a few nice rams. In northern Alberta and BC the cummins seem to be very popular with the oil field guys. Also, Montana brand fivers were freakin everywhere. Seems like every other one was a Montana (I know almost nothing about fivers).



:confused:Tourists:confused: Some people either leave their brains at home when they go on vacation or are just idiots all the time. I nearly creamed a few campers who pulled out in front of me, stopped on a bridge, or suddenly decided to turn - completely oblivious - to other traffic. No wonder the big rigs run all night and sleep during the day
