Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Crankcase vent question

Hey Guys:

I don't post a lot ; mostly read and tinker with the truck.

But it's getting warm here in the SoCal desert, and I find myself wimpering about the odd shifting paterns and lack of acceleration in the summer months. The truck seems to run fine in the morning when the air is cool. Then it hit me on the on the way down the hill from Crestline today, I got into the desert , turned on the A. C. and it wasn't ten minuts and I was back to odd shifts and lousy acceleration.

How does this happen?

Is there a known cause?

Can someone link me to threads about this?

I want to blame the trans temp sensor, then I thought I would seek guidance. before I part with the cash.

Thank You

well for one acceleration will suffer big time do to the radiator fan will take aboutas much as 30 hp away when it is spining to cool motor temp then add a. c. to the mix and there is some more hp down the drain with these on a geo metro will take you off the line if truck is stock.

as for shifting pattern don't know except that it will down shift and up shift more when you increase speed because of above hp loss. hope it give you some help

Do some free mods. If you don't feel comfortable grinding the torque plate than just slide the stock one forward all the way. Probably around a 20-30 HP gain. Cranked the starwheel all the way forward, and on the very back of the AFC there's a little cover with 2 screws- One is a break off screw -Take that off and you'll find a stud/nut with an allen head, turn that in just about all the way. Also slide the AFC housing all the way forward. All these mods except the plate will give you more power before boost comes in which really makes the truck seem a lot more repsonsive. And the extra 30 HP up top from the plate forward helps a lot too. EGT's should not be any issue whatever even towing with those mods. With the stock plate full forward I couldn't get over 1200 EGT's with 300 marine injectors, you shouldn't get over 1100 with stock injectors. I would still recommend boost and pyro gauges though. If you have the money this is a great towing package from city diesel that won't take your EGT's very high but give good gains-

The added RPM's of the 3KGSK are really great too.

OK Guys I'm goin for it! Broke the hard plastic tube, got a replacement,,,

Oh yea, I need to update the sig... I got gauges boost & pyro.

you could try tightning the star wheel a little at a time till you get it to a point you like, that will limit the pre boost fuel cloud when you stomp it
